I was a Kings fan, but watched some Bruins as I lived in Connecticut and cable carried WSBK-TV38 featuring Dana Hershey. Don Cherry was the stone faced Bruins coach, Gary Cheevers was solid in goal (but not as good as the Kings’ Rogie Vachon). Mark Messier was also very good.

I loved those WSBK-TV38 broadcasts of the Bruins games. The announcers were Johnny Pierson and Fred Cusick. They were an institution in Boston.

They lived to be 95 and 90 respectively, both having served in WW2.

One of my favorite memories of Peter McNab was when he went 8 rows up into the stands in Madison Square Garden (with the rest of the Bruins), AT THE END OF THE GAME, to attack fans in a wild melee that you won't see in the NHL today. This was December 1979 and I saw it live on TV.

The Bruins players all ended up getting $500 fines, except for Gerry Cheevers, who was in the locker room already on his second beer.

Hockey was wild in those days.
