Russia's 'catastrophic' missing men problem
Yahoo ^ | 5 Nov 2022 | Peter Weber

"Where have all the flowers gone?" asks the famous 1960s antiwar song. In Moscow today, The New York Times reports, the question is: Where have all the men gone?

The answer to both questions is, in part, the same: To the graveyards of soldiers. But a lot of the missing men of Moscow have also fled Russian President Vladimir Putin's draft for his war in Ukraine. In fact, demographers say Russia may not recover for generations, if ever.

"Putin spent years racing against Russia's demographic clock, only to order an invasion of Ukraine that's consigning his country's population to a historic decline," Bloomberg News reports. Here's a look at what demographer Alexei Raksha calls Russia's "perfect storm" of demographic decline:

Moscow demographer Igor Efremov tells Bloomberg. It would likely bring birth rates down to 1 million between mid-2023 and mid-2024, dropping the fertility rate to 1.2 children per woman, a low mark Russia hit only once, in the 1999-2000 period. "A fertility rate of 2.1 is needed to keep populations stable without migration,"

"All of the most reasonable guys are gone," said Tatiana, a 36-year-old Muscovite. "The dating pool has shrunk by at least 50 percent."

There is no shortage of women in China - that’s a urban myth - if a woman is not married by 20, then she becomes a “left over woman” and no man will marry her - no man’s family will permit their son to marry a left over, else he’ll be kicked out of the family.

I was on a START elimination mission to Bryansk, Russia. From our crappy hotel, we were bussed to the elimination site. Along the way, we got a view of Russian society that spanned from the 40’s through the new millennials. When we drove by the university. It was distinct. You had the Cold War babushkas creeping along the sidewalks, and intermingled were the generation around when the wall fell…all in blue jeans, leather jackets and heavy makeup. You wouldn’t be able to tell their millennials from ours until they opened their mouths. People were still standing in lines to get water from a pump, but the shops had ample supplies of vodka!

It is a just war for liberating Novorossya(New Russia) land and people. This land was unlawfully was taken from Russia and given to Ukraine by soviet commies. Russia is just returning it back now.

BTW all towns around where all fights go on was found by Russian czars or generals of past. You may check it by yourself.

sent into combat without proper clothing, equipment, weapons, and food.==

That is not true at all. Some bad things happened yes but those responsible are punished.

This is not fighting for Petrograd. Its one thing to defend your country. Its another thing to be used as a pawn for corporate interests or political leaders’ egos.==

It is a fight for liberating a Novorossiya (new Russia). It is a Russian land taken from Russia and given to Ukraine by soviet commies. Russia just returns back her historical lands and people too. So the cause is just.

Let Ukraine live but without Russian lands and people.

Those deserters are not considered men in Russia.

By whom? Sounds like a personal opinion.

PUTIN could stop this INVASION any time. He won’t.
Just keeps letting those dead bodies pile up. It’s not like he cares about the Russian population or military.

- Russian tanks continue to roll out of factories while those in storage are also being upgraded and deployed;

True, Russian tanks in storage are also being upgraded and deployed.

Biggest Upgrade In History? Russia To Reactivate 800 Cold War-Era T-62 Tanks Amid Depleting Arsenal

But T-62s means the Russians have exhausted the Gorbachev, Chernenko, Andropov, and Brezhnev Era stockpiles, and started in on the Khrushchev Era leftovers. That makes me think current tank production numbers are not significant, when compared to losses.

Do you guys still have T-55s in mothballs?

"..ll the available Russian woman are gorgeous... until they become babushkas"

It's actually quite true - but it's the fatty diet and plenty of potatoes that really spells the end for most Russian women.

Russia is totalitarian so Putin's successor is likely going to draft women and force them to have babies for the motherland.

If not, the country is likely going to break up. Regions like Chechnya will become independent.

By society and pubic opinion. Russian woman will not marry a deserter. He is stained by cowardice so unreliable. Who knows he may desert his wife and children if there will be any life hardship.

Also Russia has very big government business sector and a big government contracting for a private sector. No government manager will employ a deserter. And no government contract will be signed with the company who employs deserters. Because they will never get a government clearance on a ground of unreliability of such persons which may defect at any moment.

SO none will marry deserters and no company will employ them. Hence no future for them in Russia.

Chechnya as any other region for this matter will never go independent. Because it is economically bad and unsound for them.

Right now they have a small Chechnya lesser then Connecticut. And a big country where they may live everywhere and earn and do business everywhere.

So say state Connecticut goes independent. SO next morning their border will be closed and electricity cut and they will need to solve a puzzle what they will eat next day and where get electricity for running their homes. Impossible to sustain alone.

What a piece of nonsense. Although “Novorossiya” was conquered by the Russian Empire from the Ottomans in the 18th century, it has NEVER had a majority Russian population. Its population is Ukrainian. It is no more part of the historical Russian lands and peoples than Poland, Finland, or the Baltic republics, which were all at one time part of the Russian Empire.

It was also not GIVEN to Ukraine by the Soviets. This territory was part of Ukraine when it declared independence from Russia in 1918 following the October Revolution and was not reconquered by the Soviet Union until 1920.

T62 means different. That its gun works precise to take out Ukrainian pillboxes directly into the firing holes. And also they are needed to be spend because they are plenty on depo yards. There are plenty of shells for their gun. And those yards are needed to be cleared for a next generation of tanks going off from inventory.
You may not know this. But Russia still spends art shells of Soviet Union stashed in 1970-80th. She needs to clear those ammunition’s depos too.

Not true either. It was a part of DKR republic not Ukraine.
