Tourist stabbed in Manhattan steakhouse by woman angered by his wife’s treatment of staff, police say

A beef over boorish behavior in a Midtown steakhouse ended with a Massachusetts tourist stabbed twice by a diner seated at a nearby table, police said Saturday.

A Manhattan woman was arrested hours after the red-meat ruckus where police said the suspect became outraged Friday night after the 24-year-old victim’s wife made snide remarks about the service and the waitstaff inside Ruth’s Chris Steak House, cops said.

Customer Joan Thompson, 41, intervened in the argument between the wife and a worker before grabbing a steak knife and stabbing the man in the lower back and armpit shortly after 10 p.m. at the restaurant on W. 51st St., police said.

Thompson was charged with felony assault and menacing, police said.

“I’ve never been to Ruth’s,” said Bob Ostrow, who was staying at an adjoining hotel. “But if you’re going to start a ruckus you don’t want to do it at a steakhouse. There’s too many sharp knives!”

Cops spent Friday night searching for surveillance video to help identify the suspect before she was taken into custody. Thompson was sitting near the out-of-town couple when the fracas started, with the situation escalating quickly as the suspect took the side of the employees.

The victim, of Milford, Mass., was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center by ambulance.

“When they brought him out he was holding his upper chest,” said a security guard at the neighboring Michelangelo Hotel. “He was stabbed and bleeding, but still talking when they put him into the ambulance.

Thompson and her dinner companion fled the restaurant and headed on foot toward the East Side as witnesses dialed 911. She was arrested a little more than four hours after the stabbing.

INSTANTLY her picture reminded me of a scene in HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY, where in the restaurant, the waiter walks the cow out to the table, for the diner to determine which cut off of the cow he preferred.

...see...media does affect our brains many years after being programmed and I read that book 35 years ago, ONCE!

I should feel ashamed.
I don’t

With the many steakhouses in Manhattan, you go to Ruths Chris? That’s like going to Mexico City and dining at Chipotle.

LOL - I’m not sure if it’s still there, but there used to be an Olive Garden in the Times Square area, right by the TKTS theater ticket place. We used to laugh. “Yeah, let’s go to NYC and eat at Olive Garden.”

We used to laugh. “Yeah, let’s go to NYC and eat at Olive Garden.”

Those chain restaurants in NYC still give you a part of the New York experience. The prices at that Olive Garden in NYC are probably double what the typical Olive Garden charges and the waiters aren't nearly as nice.

Yes! Attempted murder has now become “assault”. What?

You're right. It could have been written...
Woman stabs man at steak house.
But, if it had, we would have missed these gems:
* A beef over boorish behavior
* red-meat ruckus

Sadly true.

Karen starts badmouthing the staff.

Or....exasperated lady makes totally true remark about really bad service.

Woke nitwit, who has no investment in the situation, decides that anyone who would complain about their food being dropped and then scooped back on the plate and then plopped in front of paying customer is a racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe.

And then the fight starts.

I would say about 50/50 either way.

Have seen customers being real jerks and servers being, to put it politely, unprofessional.

OK, lemme see if I have this right...

Karen starts badmouthing the staff.

She and Homicidal Maniac now get after it.

Homicidal Maniac now stabs Karen’s HUSBAND, who as far as we know was only trying to calm everyone down if not staying out of it altogether.

This is a scene straight out of a screwball comedy - except for the bloody part, maybe.

I had to read the story about half a dozen times trying to figure out what was going on. I think you’ve got it right. Wicked confusing writing.

Maybe it is a Democrat full employment program.

Ring Ding rage .

Good choice. Drake's Ring Ding Jr. was the first cake dessert that was surrounded by chocolate on all sides, along with Drake's Yodels.

Hostess' knockoffs (Ding Dongs and Ho-Hos) came later.
