Woman refused life-saving abortion in Missouri after her water broke 18-weeks into her pregnancy is forced to travel to Illinois for procedure: Feds now launch investigation into hospital

The federal government has launched its first investigation into a hospital after a woman was denied an abortion – despite experiencing a medical emergency.

Mylissa Farmer, 41, was 18-weeks pregnant when her water broke, leaving her at risk of life-threatening complications - but the hospital refused to perform an abortion despite her 'baby dying inside her'.

Missouri's Department of Health and Senior Services confirmed to DailyMail.com that they were investigating Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri.

The investigation has been launched under the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labour act and was authorized by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

President Biden reminded hospital in physicians in July that federal law requires healthcare providers to provide life or health-saving medical services to patients experiencing emergency pregnancy complications.

The warning was issued to the 13 states which have outlawed most abortions, adding that the law requires them to provide the treatments, if necessary, under those conditions.

Under the 1986 EMTALA law hospitals and physicians are required to provide screening and stabilizing treatment in emergency situations – even if the state has laws barring abortion.

Missouri is one of the states which quickly reinstated abortion bans after the Supreme Court overturned Roe. v Wade earlier this year.

The words "Life saving" and "abortion" are two words that just don't go together in the English language

What do you want to bet that this was planned sabotage on the pregnancy just to push a point?

Dang, the left is in “all hands on deck, ready for attack” mode right now. They’re like a rabid animal that’s cornered....viciously out of control.

It’s so insane. No. You don’t go to an abortionist u go to OB GYN and one that does not practice birth control or abortion. Deliver the baby and go from there. At 18 weeks nature will take care of it or NICU. Not use when viability starts.

What are they even talking about. An 18 wk fetus is very small. Go to the Hosp for delivery in case of hemorrhage.

What? She tried to break her water and panicked?

This is so insane

I know nothing, but is it not possible for a fetus at 18 weeks to now be viable with hospital care? Real question.

The phrase “life-saving abortion” is an oxymoron.

A successful abortion always ends the life of the child, even in those very rare instances, when it is done to save the life of a mother.

Or the hospital was just plain wrong.

24 weeks is ballpark

There’s nothing that I can think of that would threaten the life of the person carrying in utero, this other person at 18 weeks of gestation. Delivery Carrie’s a risk of bleeding out. If the water breaks. The fetus dies when that happens, delivery is spontaneous

Spontaneous abortion. That’s the medical term for miscarriage.

18 weeks is too young, current technology is about 22-24 weeks at the earliest.

In the future when we develop artificial wombs, we might be able to improve upon that number.

There HAS to be more to this story.

That is the kind of operation that is generally defined in states’ abortion laws as NOT an abortion.

As is the case in many of these stories, they are fabricated, enhanced, or just plain ol lies.

If the baby is dead it’s not an abortion.

“leaving her at risk of life-threatening complications”

Every pregnant woman is at some risk of life-threatening complications. If you don’t want to accept that risk, keep your legs closed.

Hospitals have to provide emergency services. Refused service? Sounds like fiction.

File this under ‘half the story” and “more information needed.” She did subsequently appear in a democrat attack ad.

Dubious story meant to smear Missouri and its laws.

If she needed to go to a hospital in another state she could have gone about 20 miles west to Galena or Baxter Springs Kansas (w .Governess Laura "killer" Kelly) or 30 miles southwest to Oklahoma. No need to travel 4 hours across the state to Illinois! This point alone is enough to expose this as staged leftist media theater.

Why didn’t the doctors immediately deliver the baby and perform live-saving actions on both?

Your baby is dying, so let's rip it to shreds while it can still feel!

Yes, this woman needed OB care. No, she did not need an abortion.
