The Monthly Create, Make and Share Thread is a monthly gathering of people that love to create and make. From yarn (crochet, knitting), fabric (sewing, quilting), threads (embroidery, weaving), wood crafts, ceramics, artwork and anything else you create and would like to share, this is the place to do it. Sharing something you’ve created and/or made is pure joy...and we need joy in our lives!
From complete Newbies that are looking to start that first project, to experienced artists, we would love to hear from you. If you have questions or would like advice, there’s probably someone on the thread who would be able to help.
It is impossible to hijack the Monthly Create, Make and Share Thread. Knitting, crochet, sewing, quilting, weaving, general crafting, art, wood working, patterns, articles on any of these topics, or even your own writing. Mikey, of the Crochet Crowd, has taken up knitting. His mother was a knitter and to honor her, he decided to take it up himself. He’s been going through the usual ‘frustration’ of learning to knit - awkward hands, slow, etc., but he’s now “got it going on”!
Anyway, he was posting his knitting videos on the Crochet Crowd youtube channel. Some of the crocheters took great offense & frankly, got pretty ‘ugly’ with him about it. I do not understand those attitudes ... as someone who crochets AND knits, why can’t you do both ... and if Mikey wants ro share his talent with both skills, what in the world is wrong with that?
So Mikey, trying to calm things down, came up with a “secret” playlist of his knitting tutorials. I rarely comment on FB to people who are not my ‘friends’, but I just had to say something. I told him he needed to start another channel for knitters - why should he hide his knitting talent or keep those tutorials ‘secret’ because of some cranky crocheters?
Today, he had a short blurb on two-color knitting that was very helpful to me AND he mentioned the full length tutorial on ... ta da! ..... the Knitting Crowd youtube channel. He did it - started a new channel for his knitting tutorials. I am sure I am not the only one who made that suggestion and I’m glad to see he’s done it.

These are really pretty .... I made something recently with “blanket” yarn (the one I used was called a ‘chenille’) and the texture is definitely velvet-like. To use this type of yarn to make strips & then weave around a wreath frame makes a really nice wreath, based on the pictures. Here’s the link:

I’ve watched his crochet videos and he’s a very good teacher. I’m sure his knitting channel will be very popular! :)
Someone at our local art fair makes these and some are done with thick steel cable so they have a thick trunk. He also sprays them with something that gives them foliage.

Wow! Ho ho ho & an early Merry Christmas to you! ILTY (Hobby Lobby) is one of my favorites & the RH yarn seems to get better & better .... Super Saver is almost if not somewhat ‘soft’ now. RH Soft is a good yarn too - I’ve used it in a couple of projects.
I’m sure you’ll make very good use of all that yarn, especially since you do a lot of charity crocheting.
I just want to EAT those pastel colors with a spoon, LOL! I’ll post a pix of the baby blanket once it’s finished. They’re fun, fast work and I like to use them to practice up on various stitches.
I’m still blown away by her generosity, but her eyesight is failing and hands are arthritic now, plus she’s got the ‘Urge to Purge’ so I will gladly accept her generosity and pass it on where I can. :)

You do such beautiful work. I’ve been looking for a photo from years ago that I must have dumped, it was an orchid cross stitch. This is more than 10 years back. I saw it at a show, framed and took a picture. I liked it so much I went out and bought all the colors of floss but never even started it. Beyond my cross stitch skills. I even looked through Google images to see if I could find it. There are a lot of nice orchid ones though.
I'm posting something pretty old, probably made in the 1960's by a woman who was in her 80's by then. She took in worn out or torn wool coats and made blankets out of them. We were fortunate enough that she gave us one over 44 years ago.
I like this idea so much and this summer asked for any scrap wool blankets, got 4. I am making something similar for our small town historical society, will donate it and the original. It is half done, and when togaeher I will crochet another edge around it. Not very pretty but scrap things are made for functionality.
My knees are so bad the thought of getting up and down off the floor to lay this thing out was not something I was looking forward to, so I took a picture of each of the 4 squares, and opened a power point, and made copies of each square to match the quantity, then fit them together so no two were alike horizontally or vertically. When I finished I just printed out a pattern. Took less than an hour, so easy.
Next is a crocheted Christmas blanket I found at a local high end thrift store. They told me that someone had made a few of these just for the store to sell. It is a very unusual pattern and I wanted to share it.
Winter is definitely a fiber one around here, or sewing. I have some other things going on but no pics yet. Wishing all a Merry Christmas in advance!

I seem to remember the stitch for the Christmas-colored afghan being the ‘Mile a Minute’ pattern/stitch. There are a number of variations. I’ve never made one, but I remember my Grandma working on one at some point.

That is so great you knew the pattern name. Thanks for the link. I shipped the Christmas one off to a niece. I thought of her when I bought it. I would love to tackle one in regular colors. Looks like it would be easy to work on.

I had bookmarked the giant stocking link. Just went and looked it all over. I really like the look of the stitch but no one to make a stocking for. I kept scrolling and saw many other projects and the stitch itself looks so easy. I have some empty clear ornaments kicking around I may make a few crocheted ornaments. Thanks for posting.
The stitch texture on that stocking is gorgeous & very easy .... the large ones are in a Bulky 5 & that makes it even more attractive. I love the way this second one is turning out as to the colors - really had a hard time trying to figure them out due to lack of “Christmas” colors in yarn, other than red.
Twenty rows of cuff left to knit*, then I’ll block it (again) & work on the lining. The first try at the cuff was 2 x 2 ribbing .... I did a 1 x 1 ribbing for some leg warmers I’m making & I really like that better, so I’m redoing the cuff. Also, I did a row of single crochet around the top before I started knitting & it restricted the opening - not good! The 2nd try at the cuff takes off from the row of pattern stitches and all of that stretches pretty well.
I love sharing patterns so I’m glad you enjoy them! :-)
*Pattern is for a crochet cuff that looks like ribbing, but I love doing a knit cuff instead.
