Outrage over Elon Musk’s new Twitter verification strategy is hilarious
NY Post ^ | October 31, 2022 4:35pm | Johnny Oleksinski

Can you hear the loud whine emanating from the coasts?

That chorus of dweebs comprises elite newspaper reporters, columnists and so-called influencers who have just heard the news that Elon Musk, the uber-rich new owner and CEO of Twitter, might begin charging $19.99 a month to retain “verification” on his dumb social media platform.

Their moans are music to my ears!

According to a positively symphonic report from the Verge, Musk is gung-ho on shaking up the entire screwed-up system.

“The whole verification process is being revamped right now,” he tweeted.

Play on, Elon! Play on!

What Maestro Musk is hinting at, the report said, is that those stupid blue checkmarks might soon cost a staggering $240 a year, and that they will be available to more folks than just CNN writers, celebrities, YouTube stars and Pete Buttigieg’s husband.

Anybody can get one — Twitterté, tweegalité, tweeternité! — if they are willing to partake in one of the greatest scams since bottled water: 20 bucks every 31 days for a meaningless stamp.

However, that badge of BS means more than life itself to members of media.

Journalists, who can barely afford a ballpoint pen, are incensed that their easiest avenue of self-styled power is about to cost more than HBO. And they’re further rankled that they could wind up no more special on Twitter than their plebeian readers thanks to a checkmark bonanza. Womp womp.

Verification should prove a user is real — not deem them to be more important than everybody else.

[cut]

The notion that we should give more attention and consideration to the points tweeted by the rarified verified is wrong.

If Musk wants to open up verification to the masses, fine. The media kvetching about a totally inconsequential business move is hysterical.

Great news, make the smug blue check a-holes pay $240 a year for the stupid blue check mark. Luv it.

I don’t use Twitter, and if I did I would not care about getting a blue stamp UNLESS I was trying to use my Twitter account as part of my profession, in which case it makes sense to pay for a service that I am trying to make money off of.

It’s a great idea there’s leftist blue check professors, journalists, etc. that are literal nobodies. Thanks to their blue check status, they have had clout and reach over non-blue check accounts that do have a legitimate following.

I'm proud to say I have not the slightest idea what he's talking about.

The blue checkmark, which is often denied to conservative journalists or even politicians, is something the left thinks is their due.

It would be great to see them have to pay for that pleasure.

I've tried to get a checkmark on Truth Social (they are red over there) but apparently it's only for the "elites".

I am all in for charging a monthly fee for those things. Somebody that is willing to pay $20/mo to use a social media site deserves that checkmark. It doesn't have to be limited to celebrities, politicians, athletes, and "influencers".

In fact, Free Republic should do this for their monthly contributors.

Just my opinion.

So far my favorite has been the “fact check” on Biden’s liars. That will be great if a fact check goes out every time someone from the White Hut “tweets” something.

Invest in mop and bucket companies. There is going to be a lot of brain matter splattering all over.

I kind of like the idea. Liberals ‘boycott’ the $20 while conservatives pay for it. Then when liberals post, we can say they’re FAKE accounts.

Anything that you read about Twitter from the main stream media right now should be taken with a huge grain of salt. It’s as accurate as their portrayal of Mr. Pelosi‘s attacker.

What is true, I’ve got a new Twitter account after having deleted mine years ago.

Make them buy a resource (oh, I don't know, let's say a Twit-Coin), then pay for services with the Twit-coin. Back said Twit-Coin with a crypto you own a ton of (let's say, Doge), then control your own Twit-economy by managing both the cost of the resource and the cost of the service.

Don't know if it'll happen, but I can guarantee Musk had that thought. ;)
