A Tennessee grandfather fell to his death during a skydiving accident at a high school football game Friday evening as startled onlookers watched, according to officials.
The 55-year-old experienced skydiver was participating in a pregame ceremony event for the annual "Musket Bowl," a football game between David Crockett High School and Daniel Boone High School when he was injured upon landing, said Washington County Schools Superintendent Jerry S. Boyd.
The victim was airlifted from the David Crockett High School football stadium to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Boyd would not identify the 55-year-old, but said all the skydivers taking part in the pregame stunt were expert skydivers with the group jumpTN. JumpTN did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

I don’t see the point of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. RIP.
Sad. Was the game cancelled?
If this was in Texas, we would know the answer to that.
Its a high-risk, low-reward activity.
A grandfather should be out fishing with his grandchildren.
Saw a report which said the game was not cancelled — but they did have a “moment of silence” before kick-off.
You ain’t kidding.
Or if it was a Tennessee Volunteers game.
[... did have a “moment of silence”...]
The appearance of a crumpled body mid-field tends have that affect.
He could have waited for the plane to land.. or was it really that urgent .
He died doing what he loved.
Falling to the ground.
Y’all are really sick.
I wonder if he had a heart attack before pulling the cord.
Hope it didn’t put a hole in the 50 yard line.
Heh...
“Boyd would not identify the 55-year-old..”
On the way down, they called him Bob, as he was hitting the ground, they called him Skip, once on the ground, he was Matt.
Would be a dent or a hole? The field crews probably have a pile of sifted topsoil nearby, to fill-it-in with.
Years ago, my boyfriend (now husband) went skydiving with one of his best friends, who had persuaded my boyfriend to do it with him. I asked if he was trying to subtly breakup with me, and even though he said no, I wondered for quite some time. It made me very happy afterwards to learn that our friend broke his leg on the landing, and had to walk a mile with that broken leg to meet up with the group. It was the only time my husband has been skydiving. Thankfully he learned a lesson from someone else’s misfortune.
“I don’t see the point of jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.”
I do not see the point in getting INTO ANY airplane if it is scheduled to take off! ;-)
I saw the video. He landed in the parking area.
He was coming down fast, never got to pull the cords to open the tubes.
People in the stands never knew the condition of the man before the kick-off.
