Bring a warm blanket, lie back and watch the remains of Halley's Comet burn up in our atmosphere.
The Orionid meteor shower peaks overnight tonight (Oct. 21), making this an excellent time to get outside and see some fireballs streak through the atmosphere.
The viewing conditions for this year's Orionid meteor shower are favorable, as the moon will be in a waning crescent phase and will be only 17% illuminated. The Orionids are considered to be one of the most reliable meteor showers after the Geminids and Perseids, and are known to produce dozens of meteors per hour, making this year's shower an excellent opportunity for some late-night skywatching.

Ping.
On CNN some years back the talking heads were discussing meteor showers and the fact that there had been an above average number of showers at the time. One genius CNN person asked if the increase in meteors showers was because of global warming.
Facepalm....
God help us....
I’ve been out for the last week and tonight ... CLOUDS!
All you need is a comfy chair, maybe a blanket depending on where you live, and, a clear sky.
They will appear to be come from the Northern part of Orion (comes up about midnight), but, they can start and end in any part of the sky. But, if you trace the path backward, it will point to Orion.
Just sit back and enjoy the show.
I have a chaise and will be suited up for the cold, snow pants and winter jacket.
It’s already in the forties here and the overnight low is supposed to be in the mid 30’s.
YUCK!
‘Bout time it’s taking a shower - it was getting a little stinky!
That’s our usual situation.
ok...I’m in East Central Missouri...so, North Eastern or Western? What is your opinion on where to view?
EVERYTHING is caused by globull warming! When we have warmer or cooler temperatures, wetter or dryer weather, more or fewer hurricanes, stronger or weaker hurricanes, more or less tornadoes, more clouds or less clouds, hemorrhoids, erectile dysfunction, gout, chapped lips, arthritis, constipation and diarrhea. You name it, they will blame it on “climate change”.
Sounds silly, but, just look up. Dress comfortably, get a comfy chair and look up! The shower members can appear anywhere, but, you can trace their path back to Orion.
Be aware that the peak time for this shower is Sunday Morning at 5:00am.
You are set! Just don’t go to sleep before 5:00am :D
ok. Thank you.
#6 I fell asleep only to be awaken by an alien asking for directions to area 51.
I think I was awaken...?
