The question here is why is Europe allowing themselves to be reduced to vassal states of the US? What threats did the Neocons make to the leaders of Europe if they didn’t do as told? I realize that some of their leaders are into this stuff - sticking it to Russia whenever possible, regardless of what it leads to, but what of the others - since when was ANYONE able to silence Berlusconi? What level of threats have been imposed on him?
You can’t discount the impact of the Greens, who control the levers of power in several countries, prominently in Germany, for example, via their “traffic light” (Red-Yellow-Green) power sharing coalition.
If the Greens bolt, the govt falls. So on energy, the Greens have a veto.
And at their core, this is what the Greens believe: “We have to destroy the economy to save the planet.”
I first heard this stated with giggles on NPR, between a “science” host and a “climate” guest.
