The historic New Jersey funeral home where mobsters wound up after getting whacked in “The Sopranos” is facing a hit job itself.
The Irvine-Cozzarelli Memorial Home in Belleville — which was discussed and featured in numerous episodes of the HBO Mafia drama — could be demolished as part of a redevelopment plan recently approved by township officials, NJ.com reported.
It’s a controversial move, as the building on Washington Avenue where the storied business is located dates back to 1885 — and the local historical society doesn’t want to see it fitted for cement overshoes.
“The place has incredible potential,” Michael Perrone, president of the Belleville Historical Society, told the paper. “And so to tear that down, is just crazy, it’s just crazy.”

I loved it. Never missed an episode and then bought the whole show on DVDs and watched again. Finally sold the DVDs and forgot about it. This news opens an old wound. So to speak.
Fuhgeddaboudit
Yeah, that’s what I meant to say.
I’m surprised no takers on buying it. People have been dying to get into that building for years
The cultural annihilation of the West in its twilight years gathers speed as people are occupied with bread and circuses.
Almost the old neighborhood in Silver Lake...Sigh
My wife is from Belmont Ave. in Silver Lake. Like every other neighborhood it is way different now.
Hee hee hee. I strike again!
Holsteins Ice Cream, Chocolate and Restaurant in Bloomfield, New Jersey is a Sopranos’ fans’ tourist attraction. A booth in the restaurant section was filmed in various segments of the series with various characters in the show sitting in the booth. Tourist buses with fans from everywhere, inclduing foreign tourists, stop at the curb outside Holsteins. After their arrival is announced and any preparations are made, the tourists are allowed in about four at a time. They get to sit in the booth and have pictures taken sitting in the booth. Regular business in Holsteins goes on in the meantime as best it can.
I know because I knew nothing of any of that one day when I was having a little lunch at Holsteins, and when all the “fandom” was in progress I had to ask another Holsteins’ customer what all the commotion was about.
Not ever having watched the Sopranos series, and knowing only what I had read about it over the years from news reports, all I could say was “OMG!!!!, You’ve got to be kidding!!!!”.
My life has been one where very seldom have I ever been a fan of being fan (which is short for fanatic). Working in New York City for many years I ran across, met and spoke with a number of “celebrities”. Never impressed and never behaved as if they were not just a regular person.
“Holsteins Ice Cream, Chocolate and Restaurant in Bloomfield, New Jersey...”
Is this the place in the final scene where Tony is sitting with his family?
Hoooooooo!
“Is this the place in the final scene where Tony is sitting with his family?”
I have no idea. Never watched the show. All I know is it recieves the attention of Sopramos fans who arrive at Holsteins in tourist buses.
I hear the onion rings there are to die for.
Friends of mine who are more familiar with Holsteins agree with you. Personally, I have never had them.
