A vacation in a foreign land, Uncle Sam does the best he can You're in the army now, oh-oo-oh you're in the army now Now you remember what the draft man said, Nothing to do all day but stay in bed You're in the army now, Oh-oo-oh you're in the army now You'll be the hero of the neighbourhood, Nobody knows that you've left for good You're in the army now, Oh-oo-oh you're in the army now

I guess I’m officially old, as I have no clue about one of the world’s biggest bands…
To call them a “band” is a stretch.
What are they? Are they popular in the US?
It’s like calling N’Sync a “band”.
I think they actually got a 5-minute visit with Biden back in the summer. In Europe....probably every kid from age 13 to 15 has heard of them.
Gotcha, boy band. Zero instruments and coordinated dancing.
I guess their entertainment company found out that their lobbying dollars weren’t working.
I’m also betting that at least one of the younger members had some items in their contract that are being overridden by the older ones being around and still doing group activities.
It seems that they will be joining the , Womens auxillary
ballon corps....
“K-pop” group — Korean pop, usually pubescent(-looking’ boy-bands — are huge in Asia and among many Western schoolgirls. They’re very similar to our own boy bands, perhaps a bit less sexually intimidating to young girls. Very androgynous. Military service can only do them good.
KATUSAs?
They will have to wash off all that makeup they have on.
They all look so gay. That cannot be good in the South Korean army.
Do they haze in SK?
Yes, they toss the recruits into North Korea : )
Per Kamala, they’re our ally...
BTS is a male vocalist/singing group form Korean and of style that became known as “K-Pop” (Korean for Korean style pop music). They have a reported 90 million followers globally, with fans across asia and all the way to the U.S.
In some ways they resemble the style of the “American boy bands” of the 1990s, like Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and New Kids on the Block, with singing performances that include dance moves, but the K-Pop style has alot more dance choreography and I’d suggest it is much more developed.
The K-Pop style has expanded across Asia and is reflected in male singing groups in Japan and elsewhere.
In that case, I’m glad I have no idea.
I don’t think straight men in their 40’s are the target demographic.
KATUSA’s are Koreans who can fulfill tbeir Korean military obligation serving in Korean subunits that are part of American military units. Where there are Katusa assigned they are part of an American military company, and report to that company’s officers, with their own non-coms. The roles they serve in vary depending the unit they serve with.
The whole program began at that period in the Korean war, after China came in to help North Korea and the South Korean military was pushed way south in South Korea. There were many South Korean military units that were no longer whole or working. Young Korean men wanting to join a miltary unit would approach the Americans and ask to let them help. It led to a formal program during the war and the program has continued since the war.
As someone who is familiar with the prpram by personal miliary experience in Korea, I think the program has been positive for American-Korean military relations and even just American-Korean relations. A lot of stereotypes about each other are defused with personal familiarity.
“Do they haze in SK?”
Yes. At least they did in the 1960s when I was there. Two ROK soliders told me their seargents favorite tool of discipline was a three feet long two by four.
“I don’t think straight men in their 40’s are the target demographic.”
Right. Most of their fan base is young women and young teens.
