The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!
I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.
HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER
One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.
Have fun with today’s cryptogram and have a Terrific Tuesday.
Barnum and Bailey on steroids..
The QB digram doomed it from the get-go.
The author’s first name opened it up quite nicely.
KLYPNEKZL KT NT MKZPVLE NT N GRQQVU, NT YUKQWEVLKLQ NT NL NUGVJ UZCCVU NLJ NT JVNJPO NT N WKE GNL. - UZLNPJ UVNQNL
Solution to previous puzzle (select the yellow text with your cursor to read):
INFLATION IS AS VIOLENT AS A MUGGER, AS FRIGHTENING AS AN ARMED ROBBER AND AS DEADLY AS A HIT MAN. - RONALD REAGAN
HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER
LOL
Okay, that would have been a lot easier if he’d said the full word and not abbreviated. LOL! I diddled around for several minutes on that, thinking, “But there IS no other word that... oh!”
Hollywood for the ugly.....and inept.
The 1st thing I look for in a cryptogram is that 1 word that solves that whole puzzle. That cryptogram had that word several times, making it pretty easy !
Or well-mannered. Or well-educated. Or well...
A complete waste of bandwidth. There should be a punishment for anyone caught littering FR’s website (which most of us support with our hard-earned dollars) with frivolous puerile nonsense such as “word puzzles”. What’s next? Sewing circles?
The cryptogram has been running daily for almost 5 years now thanks to the volunteer efforts of nikos1121, with help from Lonesome in Massachussets, Apple Pan Dowdy, a few others. This is a polite group and it serves as a pleasant distraction from the serious matters of the day.
Your comment is very much out of place here. If you dont want to work the puzzles, no one is making you. But whats frivolous to you may be enjoyable to others.
Enjoy your day. Go for a bike ride, or something.
Yes. I had it all completed except for the two instances of PL. It took me a few minutes to figure it out. A word without vowels?
I’ve been a dollar-a-day man for over 15 years. If Jim Rob complains I will cease and desist from posting Today’s Cryptogram. As it is it keeps me in touch with FR on a daily basis.
Ugh! I just noticed that I said “Terrific Tuesday” on the ping list notice today. I’m at a weeklong music festival/workshop this week and a bit sleep deprived. Early this morning when I posted the CG,
I was thinking it was Tuesday…. LOL.
SO, HAVE A MARVELOUS MONDAY INSTEAD.
A bit grumpy today, are we, 4Runner?
Those of us who do daily cryptograms are keeping our brains alive. Many of us are senior citizens, so it is not a waste of bandwidth at all. Plus it’s fun. Glad you joined us today’
