Research confirms unique danger of postpartum breast cancers (High metastasis likelihood within five years of birth)

Breast cancers that emerge within five years of giving birth are more likely to spread and become deadly. Additionally, a new study shows that recent childbirth alone is an independent risk factor for breast cancer progression.

The findings suggest that current clinical guidelines, which don't factor in postpartum status, are less able to accurately predict the risk of cancer recurrence and guide optimal treatment strategies in young patients.

"This has profound implications for prognosis," said Pepper Schedin, Ph.D. "A postpartum diagnosis can move women who appear to have good prognosis into a high-risk category."

The risk of metastasis was 50% higher among those diagnosed within five years of giving birth, as was the risk of breast cancer-specific death, compared with those who had not given birth. And these increased risks of metastasis and death were independent of tumor stage or estrogen receptor status—factors used now to judge how aggressive a cancer is likely to be, and to decide which treatments are appropriate.

Breast cancers that don't have estrogen receptors, known as ER-negative tumors, are generally considered more dangerous than ER-positive tumors. But in the study population, the proportion of women who progressed was the same in ER-negative and ER-positive tumors. The primary risk factor for progression to metastasis was not ER status, but rather a breast cancer diagnosis within five years of childbirth.

"That does not fit with everything we thought we knew about ER-negative disease," Schedin said.

Schedin's team has also shown that as the liver recovers from the demands of pregnancy and lactation, it becomes an inviting landing spot for escaping cancer cells to take root and grow.

Factoring in postpartum status should help clinicians make more accurate predictions about breast cancer aggressiveness and guide treatment decisions, such as the need for chemotherapy after surgery to remove tumors.

I'm sorry but I'm skeptical over this claim.

I do remember the results of research a few years ago that did show a connection between abortion and breast cancer but birth? Not buying it.

There were studies tying breast cancer to abortion. Then they were allegedly discredited.

One wonders if there will be a link with the vaccines. Who knows today what is true. They tell us what they want regardless of truth.

Sounds suspicious bigtime.

Not one mention of whether mother is breastfeeding or not. That is a factor and they neglect to talk about that.

I do believe that a pregnant woman has breasts that God is preparing to feed the newborn. And if you abort the child, the breast is more likely to create rancid or deformed cells. Sounds plausible.

I know I will get bashed.

I got breast cancer at age 59. The main things they asked were if you had an abortion, if you did not breast feed and if anyone in your family had cancer. The abortion factor and not breast feeding seemed to be important causes in developing breast cancer.

I don’t know who financed this study, but Planned Butcherhood and Demonicrats hoping for a huge pro-abort surge are my guesses.

Do they account for breast feeding vs formula? I thought the abortion angle was that the mammary glands geared up for milk production that was never used, which lead to cancer growth.

My wife breast fed both children, and now in her late 60’s she was just tested for breast cancer, and none was detected. This is in spite of her being a stage-4 cancer patient (lungs, rib bone, brain).

Prayers for your dear wife. She obviously is a very strong woman, physically and in faith.

If the baby is born premature, there won’t be anything to feed the baby with, other than formula.

Do many women using birth control pulls until deciding to stop and get pregnant.....could be tge long know pills causing the cancer, the prgnancy helping to prevent it as was established long ago too.

You're right. I had forgotten that. There's a myriad of possibilities but birth, imo, is not one of them.

I also have a theory that mammograms also cause it. On an annual basis, women run out and have their breasts smashed with unnatural force on the guise of an examination. Smashing delicate tissues, ducts, muscle etc can't be healthy.

Cases have skyrocketed in the past couple of decades. Why is that? Cancer is big business, I doubt anyone is really trying to find the answer and this article, it sounds agenda driven to me.

Good points!

Another variable to investigate would be how length of time breastfeeding correlates with metastasis.
