Sure. I too have lost respect for my employer, more than you will ever know.

But that doesn’t mean I am going to steal from whatever company I work for. They gave their word to pay me for services agreed on, and I have given my word to provide those services.

If I don’t provide those services, I have no reason to complain about whatever they might do.

“They gave their word to pay me for services agreed on, and I have given my word to provide those services.”

I think it’s a little more complicated than you are making it out to be.

I don’t think anyone’s talking about not providing the agreed upon services. What they mean is they’re providing everything agreed upon and have found ways to streamline the process and get the work done while still being able to do the same for another company.

So, the argument becomes, do they OWN you for a certain number of hours a day or do they hire you to complete certain tasks? And if you complete those tasks in a more efficient manner, are you obligated to say so?

I think you come from a different generation where there was still some loyalty and honor from employers. I find none of that out there today. If I use my skillset in automation to blow through any repetitive work on auto-pilot, IMHO, it’s none of anyone’s business. If I want to play with my kids all day while a script I wrote does my job just as well as I would manually, I see that as a win for everyone. And I don’t see why someone can’t take another job to fill the time if they so desire either. The company is getting the work that was agreed upon at the start. What they’re not getting is ownership of my time. Frankly, I don’t believe they’re entitled to that, but I know other people view things differently.

Again I said I’m not justifying this behavior.

I agree with that.

I would never attempt to sell out my employer.

It’s a simple concept, not biting the hand that feeds you.

Look, if the company is deeply involved in crime, find a
new place to work. I think that is the way to avoid a
conflict of interest or morals.

How is it stealing again?

Person works at two companies. Get’s performance reviewed and those reviews are in the very good to excellent range, and is not falling behind on work in either job.

At what point did accepting a job turn into the company hiring you telling you what you can or can’t do with the rest of the hours of your day?

That this forum is opposed to anyone maximizing their value in the marketplace says a lot about why this country, and world, is in the shape it is in.

I think it’s funny in light of how this forum feels about slavery reparations. Employment contracts should not mean the same as indenturement. Do what you want on your own time. My dad worked three jobs to make ends meet growing up. I know execs sitting on literally 17 boards at once.

What the f*ck happened to this forum?!?
