Vladimir Putin was given a stern dressing down by the president of Tajikistan in another indicator that the Russian dictator has lost respect and influence in his own backyard.
Fellow longstanding dictator Emomali Rahmon, ruler of the Central Asian state of 9 million since 1994, seized upon Putin's woes back home and in Ukraine to give him a piece of his mind and tell him how he really feels during a summit in the Kazakh capital of Astana.
A glum and awkward looking Putin slouched back in his chair and took the seven minute tirade as a host of Central Asian leaders and officials at the Commonwealth Of Independent States Summit (CIS) watched on.
'Yes, we are small nations, we are not 100-200 million, but we have history, culture, we love, we want to be respected.' Rahmon said in a fiery outburst.
'We do not need anything; just to be respected.'
The humiliation was witnessed by the rulers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
'Why do we have to beg (Russia to attend) some miserable forum in Tajikistan?' Rahmon demanded of Putin, jabbing his finger and making expansive gestures.
'I gave instructions to the Foreign Ministry, I even talked to you to ask (Russia) to attend at least at the ministerial level. No, at the level of deputy ministers. Is this what Tajikistan deserves, a strategic partner?'
It is not the first time that Putin's so-called friends and partners in Asia have turned on him publicly since his debacle in Ukraine now that they sense weakness and smell blood.
At a summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan last month, Chinese premier Xi Xinping snubbed dinner with Putin, while Indian prime minister Narendra Modi told Putin in front of the media that 'now is not the time for war'.

Is Betano or Bet365 giving odds on Putin’s longevity over the next year or so?

Wow, you just have to laugh at these pathetic “news sources” and their ignorant followers.
The Tajikistan president was begging for Russian attention to his country and Putin’s (or a reps) attendance at their conference from Putin...hardly an “indicator that Putin has lost respect and influence.” His complaint actually demonstrated how much more respect and influence Putin has achieved during this conflict; how much his participation is valued. Much of the world (outside of the West) is eagerly moving away from U.S. world hegemony and towards the new multipolar world that is being developed.
Putin’s presence is in great demand these days...:-)
Just goes to show that Russia has its vassals, just like the USA does.
Rahmon reminds me of one guy back in HS. He talked big for a pipsqueak because he was someone’s else’s “bitch.”. In this case, he’s backed by the US just the same.
Tip for today: Stay away from balconies.
“You made that country up.”
Tajikistan? It is an independent and sovereign nation in Central Asia.
Yep. Putin will need to settle for a cease fire. He should say he will withdraw troops from Ukraine as long as Ukraine recognizes Crimea as Russian territory and Ukraine pledges to remain neutral and not join NATO.
In Putin’s fevered Russian Supremacist mind there is no difference between Tajikistan and Tatarstan. They are both vassals of Muscovy and his toys. I am afraid a lot more Russians are going to have to be killed before they understand that is not the case.
Have you ever read the history of U.S involvement in central and south America.
Are you describing America or Russia or both?
With Kazakhstan moving away from Russia and into China’s orbit and protection, Central Asia seems to be slipping away from Russia’s influence. With events in Ukraine, they are going to see China as not only the financial, but the sole military super power of the region. While Putin supporters were predicting the imminent demise of NATO, it’s the CSTO that appears to be collapsing as Russia’s power evaporates. China’s Belt and Road, along with massive investments involved, aka debt, will cement them as Chinese satellites.
Which one? Or both?
