I have GERD really bad, somehow connected to a hiatal hernia that I developed
Carbs don’t really seem to affect me as much as specific foods.
Tomatoes and tomato based sauces are the worst
Ice cream (milk doesn’t seem to have the same effect)
Processed meat within two hours of laying down
The supposed only cures are cut off your esophagus above stomach, jamb the esophagus further into stomach and stitch it back up.
Or put a bracelet of magnets around esophagus above stomach that keep the tube tight. I’m thinking I’ll get the bracelet but would love to hear from anyone who has had a procedure!
I was offered the op to remake the esophagus but the surgeon advised there is a 5% failure rate which can make things worse. Quite high it seems to me.
Especially as a gastroscopy found no hernia and the esophageal valve seemed to be functioning!
So I try to control it now with diet; only partially successful but in my case foods with Sulphites are definitely to be avoided.
And chocolate.
Tomato based sauces and processed meats are both likely to have sulphite-based preservatives.
