Arkansas Man Claims Golf Club Cheated Him Out of Hole-in-One Prize
KIRO7 ^

An Arkansas man has accused the Morrilton Country Club of cheating him out of an advertised prize for a hole-in-one challenge during a weekend tournament.

Austin Clagett of Conway is pursuing legal action against both the country club and Jay Hodge Ford of Morrilton after they refused to transfer to him the title of a 2022 Ford F-150 4x4 Supercrew, valued at $53,595, KATV reported.

Pre-tournament advertising hyped the truck as a prize for the first participant in Saturday’s “Tournament of a Century” to make a hole-in-one on the course’s 10th hole.

As per Golf Digest: “Against all odds, Clagett went out and aced the 10th hole. According to reports, it was a good, clean ace. It didn’t happen on a provisional. It didn’t happen out of turn. A letter-of-the-law ‘one.’ When Clagett went to claim his new ride after round, however, Morrilton Country Club wouldn’t turn over the keys.”

According to a news release issued by Clagett’s attorney, Andrew Norwood of Denton & Zachary, Clagett sunk the tricky shot on his first attempt but was denied his reward.

“This is about doing what is right. Mr. Clagett lived up to his end of the deal when he got the hole-in-one, and now Morrilton Country Club and Jay Hodge Ford of Morrilton want to crawfish out of the deal,” Norwood said.

“If they didn’t want to pay up when Mr. Clagett got a hole-in-one, they shouldn’t have offered the deal,” he added.

Jay Hodge Ford said in a prepared statement that the dealership was unable to fulfill the club’s request to provide the truck as a prize because they were not given adequate lead time to provide insurance for the vehicle, KATV reported.

“Without our knowledge, Morrilton Country Club promoted that this new truck would be available as a winning prize at the event despite our agreement that it would be for display purposes only,” the dealership stated, adding, “Jay Hodge Ford of Morrilton would like to extend its sincerest apologies to the community for this misunderstanding, and we look forward to serving everyone in the future.”

Dirtbags. I had a similar thing happen to me at a Hole in One event for charity. The prize was 4 tires for a hole in one. Another fellow got a hole in one, and they ended up splitting up the prize. I got 2 tires as did he...at least I assume. I gave them away. Who puts tires on two wheels at a time? Only those who are in dire need, or needs studded tires BITD.

I will often replace 2 tires, it just depends on circumstances.

for example I might buy 4 new tires for fwd car, I will drive till the fronts are worn out and then rotate the rears which have almost no wear to the front and put the new tires on the rear and repeat till car is totaled.

or more likely wait till the fronts are 1/2 tread and rotate them to the rear and put the non worn rear tires on the front drive till they are worn and put new ones on the front.

I am sure there are lots of people who do the same.

Looks like the country club and the Ford dealership will pay the price of the truck plus legal fees, etc.

I also have a rwd M3, it has larger rear tires.

I have to replace those twice as often as the fronts.

I have a friend with a hell kitty, she is always replacing the rear tires.

It is annoying that you can only get discounts if you buy 4 tires.

As far as I can tell, no one is claiming that Mr. Clagett did not legitimately make a hole in one. The country club aggressively promoted the truck as the prize for a hole in one on that particular day. The golfers had no reason to believe otherwise. The club and the Ford dealer should make good on this and award Mr. Chagett the truck.

If I had a good spare, I’d buy just one new tire to go with it and rotate the two best worn tires to the back (no winter weather to worry about where I did that). But that was back before tiny spares, and back when I wasn’t much better off than minimum wage.

I usually buy two at a time. The driving wheels wear out tires faster. I don’t rotate tires; I figure they rotate plenty while I’m driving. In my broke younger days, I’d buy one used tire whenever I absolutely had to.

Since Clagett made a legit hole in one, the truck is his. The club and the dealership can sue each other to determine which of them pays for it.

The club needs to make good on their offer. They can take up their beef with the dealer on their own time.

“because they were not given adequate lead time to provide insurance for the vehicle, KATV reported.”

bull obama. Anyone can afford insurance for a damn pick-up truck. This stealership is hilarious and lying to the teeth. They thought the odds of someone getting a hole in one was close to impossible.

It’s like what Sports Central in canada explained when the M’s beat the Blue Jays with a 7 RUN LEAD. 99% of the time the team leading would win, but what about the 1% ??

Who puts tires on two wheels at a time?

And those of us with old Mopars with bad ball joints that makes front end alignment impossible and the front tires only getting worn out quickly.

Is that like putting on a sock and shoe, then a sock and a shoe?
