FORT WORTH, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A Fort Worth neighborhood wants answers after a man has been observed sneaking around late at night, trimming trees.

They're calling him Edward Scissorhands.

"I was talking to my wife, Emily and I was like 'hey we had a storm last night' and she was like 'oh no that's Edward Scissorhands..' and so I was like 'uh what?'" Jerry Balkenbush said.

"People in the neighborhood were talking about it and it seems like he was just hitting certain streets,"
Emily Balkenbush said.

Several of their neighbors have caught him on their home
surveillance videos, normally out around 3 a.m.
with a dog off leash.

It’s 3:00 AM. Some people raid the fridge for a snack. Some break out the pruning shears.

Seems like neglect by the home owners for not keeping trees trimmed? JMO

It’s on the road right-of-way, and it looks as if he is judiciously pruning, as opposed to mutilating, so it is kind of a public service.

There are times when I see a big, glaring weed in the mulch and I just have to pull it out...

I tend to agree. Not just a hazard to walkers.

We have a nearby school with flashing lights to indicate when the school speed zone is active. Because of overgrown trees and low hanging branches, you can’t see the lights until you’re in the restricted zone. Locals are aware of it. People just passing through are caught off guard. Complaints to the school and city are ignored.

One could write a book on stop signs hidden by overgrown brush and intersections where on coming traffic is obscured for the same reason.

from the cuts i saw....he knew what he was doing.

As a former certified arborist, I concur.

By FAR the worst pruining jobs I ever see are those done by:
1. Home owners with good intent.
2. Asplundh with the intention circumventing our immigration and employment regulations.

When I was in high school my friends and I talked about doing some harmless pranks like cutting someone’s lawn while they were away, just to confuse the the heck out of them and other such silly things. We never managed to do that, but we did invent a fun prank, where if we found a front wheel drive compact car in a driveway, we would pick up the back end and turn it sideways. - bonus points if we could turn it where a trailer was up on blocks and a fence was next to the front yard, and box the car in. I would have loved to see the expression on the owner’s face when they went outside to go to work.

I had to go through a course on the subject. The arborist who was doing the lecture was making a ton of money off these courses. Government funded...I’ll say no more.

Someone may find a way to electrify their bushes. Sort of like the invisible fence to keep dogs away.
Next time “Eddie” snips, he gets ripped with some unexpected voltage.

A law isn’t necessary...but maintenance is. Our utility companies trim all the time. So does our Town.

He does know what he’s doing. No tree is going to die or get diseased from those cuts. He ought to teach Duke Energy crews how to trim a tree.

I completely get your good-will and humor! Nicely put.

But when I see one of those trees "Loli popped" or "Butch cut", and the tree re-grows those branches jaggedly shooting towards the sky, it makes me think of the tree "SCREAMING". And I'm a man with little love for fauna and flora alike.
