That $40 million sounds like a lie, when the article says items were bought for $10 and $3 then marked up to $5,000. So it may be $40 million in INFLATED pricing of actual goos valued at $4,000.
My Army tour in South Korea, ‘84-’86 sure schooled me up on fake stuff / labels, etc. Some items were actually very high quality, just not the real deal.
Add in all the other “shopping experiences” in places I visited world-wide over the course of 27 years.

I assume that her buyers were paying well below retail. Why would you pay full price from a store like hers?
True value of all the items was probably less than $50k.
