That’s nice. That wouldn’t get me to my Mom’s house on the other side of the state without an 8 hour stop to recharge.

Some people don’t like buying an electric car because the police can just track it or turn it off whenever they wish. But this car allows the Chinese police to do that. Why buy a Chinese car.

Does this EV come with the high output Whirlpool motor or the Maytag high torque motor?

300 mile range is probably assuming charged to 100%, which is good only when about to go on a long trip. Charging to 80% is 4/5ths of 300 -- about 240 miles.

30 minutes to "fast" charge from 10 to 80% (adding 240 miles to the charge) ain't something to brag about. My EV (a "hybrid" SUV) charges to 80% (250 miles) in 10-15 minutes. Part of that is from it giving me that range with a smaller battery at 77kWh instead of a 111kWh battery.

“For now, the Polestar 3 starts at $85,300 with the $1,400 destination fee included. The $6,000 Performance pack brings the total cost to $91,300.”

LOL!

The proles are going to be walking, riding bikes or taking the bus.

There is no intention to make EVs “for all.”

There never was.

Range in reality will turn out to be 150. Charging time will be double.

I always swim against the current on FR because I love EVs. Hate the forced EV push on the market though.

My usual disclaimers - range is such a BS topic. That is what one of your gas cars is for. 95% of daily driving comes in under 70 miles. Also, charging time is not that big of a deal as I always charge mine overnight. Had one for 7 years and 2 months - 62,000 miles.

Pretty nice HP on this one with the performance package. 4.9 zero to 60 is not too shabby.

Exterior looks nice. Interior is very lazy. Tired of these EV designers that think they will just have a basic dash structure and slap a giant tablet on top. Stupid.

Price point - About $20K too high IMO. Don’t mind dropping $60K for a 6 - 8 year run, but $90K is a little out there, especially when most people would think it was cheaper than that. If you are going to spend $90K, it would be nice for people to realize you have the ability to do it, by recognizing it on sight.

...the Polestar 3 starts at $85,300...

No!

That's NOT affordable for working to middle class people.

Until--or unless, and I doubt it--they come up with a cheap auto, these gadgets aren't going anywhere.

Henry Ford brought us into the modern auto-owning age because he brought a price people could afford.

So far, electric cars aren't affordable.

I understand that California almost overloaded its electrical power system awhile back because of strain by air conditioners.
After Banning Non-Electric Cars, Now California Begs EV Owners NOT to Charge Them (9.1.22)

Yes, EV technology needs to be pioneered imo.

But don't California junk science escapism elites understand that the EV-manufacturing brag of faster and faster charging times, times that still don't compete with time to fill a tank, means that increasingly more strain will be put on an already maxed power grid?

EV charging station line up in California (Non-FR; 7.4.22 )

Unlike desperate Democrats, Trump always does his homework before saying things.

Corrections, insights welcome.

Another way to look at EVs is that their motors are 85% efficient (fanboy numbers) but they get their electricity from batteries which return 95% of the power put into them(unless under heavy load and then it drops a lot). the batteries get their power from the specialized charger (90%efficient) which in turn gets its power from the distribution network (94% efficient) which in turn gets its power from the transmission network (92% efficient) which in turn gets 65% of it’s power from fossil fuel plants (33% efficient) SO if we put this all together the bottom line is .85 x .95 x .9 x .94 x .92 x .33 = 20.7% so EVs are a third less efficient at converting fossil fuel to useful work than ICE powered cars. BUT since only 64 % of the grid is fossil powered correcting for this gives 32%.

According to an EV promoting EV fanboy site ICE engines are up to 40% efficient THEREFORE IT MAKES NO SENSE TO HAVE EV’S BECAUSE THEY BURN MORE FOSSIL FUEL THAN ICE VEHICLES if you are going by saving fossil fuel and avoiding the perfectly harmless CO2 because batteries don’t MAKE power they just store it from another source.

And…. That doesn’t even look at the other downsides of EVs. Like Cost, charging time, battery life, range, availability of charging stations, electric generation capacity, etc.
