Pit bulls or part pits are growing in number, because people who like them tend not to like spaying and neutering.

They used to be about 1% of the dog population in shelters, now about 10%. Sure most shelters spay and neuter or make you put a deposit down for that, but I think they ought to put all the pits down, a pity though it is for most of them.

That wouldn’t stop the amateur shelters though.

I was gonna say that - when I first heard about this, my first thought was that the two dogs were a breeding pair, or at least not neutered. Their behavior can change drastically when they are being hormonal.

I like pit bull dogs, but I like all dogs. There are other breeds of dog that have unpredictable or hair-trigger temperaments and are more likely to bite than some, but pit bulls of course do more damage when they bite, because of the brutal history of how the breed originated in the first place. They were for pit fighting and the sadistic sport of baiting. So the potential is always there. You have to give a pit bull a special kind of home and handle it a certain way if you want it for a companion.

I have a lot of stories - one guy had a pit bull and a cat in his apartment and they lived in harmony for years but then the dog just started having a problem with the cat that got worse and worse so the guy gave his cat to a neighbor.

That’s one of the lighter-hearted stories. The others are - ugh.

Animal shelters in most cities are simply another form of welfare in the ghetto.

My friend works with two animal shelters in our big blue city. Its 90% pit bulls. Once again others need to work and pay to clean up thug-life and ghetto irresponsibility

Not true.

I’ve had nothing but pit-mixes over the last 30 years or so, two males and one female. All were rescues. All were neutered or spayed. As one passed, we replaced it with another. All three were and are great dogs.

We have a large, fenced yard, and it has become somewhat of a “dog park” for friends and neighbors. None of my dogs have ever been aggressive towards any of the other dogs or their people. All my dogs happily played and play with the other dogs.

You want to put all pits down? Then YOU go to their owners, and tell them you want to kill their dogs.
