Her first movies were made during WW2. She was a young beauty who aged well. Here she is with little Elizabeth Taylor.

For the 1995-1996 TV season, CBS moved the very successful "Murder, She Wrote" from Sunday night to Thursday opposite Friends. This was a totally different neighborhood and vibe, and this did the show in.

Cheesiest detective show ever. None of the killers ever tried to shoot her or run away.

Not to mention Cabot Cove, Maine where the series took place must have had a murder rate higher than Detroit

Kinda like Matlock, whose every friend and acquaintance ended up being charged with murder.

Yes, that was one of many stupid moves on CBS’ part over that time period that caused audiences to disappear from successful shows. Albeit, they made several movies and the series lived on through the early 2000s through those. Wish they had made some more while she was still healthy enough to film them.

Not a bad run - most series never see such long success.

Amazing, that swan was married to queer as three left feet Charles Laughton.

Yes, like the fictional town the Hardy Boys came from, the small city crime capital of the Western Hemisphere.

Aged well??? Her lament was that she looked older than she was and she did..often cast as a mother to someone barely younger than she was.

The story about Charles Manson is interesting. Giving up her career to go to Ireland saved her kids life

Seemed like she was pretty much the common thread in dozens of murders. Coincidence? Methinks not. 😎

You are likely mistaking her for Elsa Lanchester, who was married to Laughton from the early 1930s to his passing in 1962 (basically being his “beard”).

Samuel Taylor Coleridge: “Suspension of disbelief, sometimes called willing suspension of disbelief, is the intentional avoidance of critical thinking or logic in examining something unreal or impossible in reality, such as a work of speculative fiction, in order to believe it for the sake of enjoyment.” —Wikipedia

In order to suspend disbelief that a man can fly through the air like an airplane, the writers of a Superman show must make an attempt to make it believable.

I could never suspend disbelief that a little old lady could encounter a murder once per week.
