California to ban stores from providing the little plastic bags grocery shoppers often use to stow produce

California, a state known for its onerous regulations caused by left-wing policies, has approved legislation to ban stores from providing those helpful little plastic bags that consumers commonly use to store produce while shopping at the supermarket.

The new rule is slated to go into effect on January 1, 2025, but even after it takes hold, stores will still be allowed to offer compostable bags and recycled paper bags, according to the bill.

The text of the bill states that "a 'precheckout bag' means a bag provided to a customer before the customer reaches the point of sale, that is designed to protect a purchased item from damaging or contaminating other purchased items in a checkout bag, or to contain an unwrapped food item, such as, but not limited to, loose produce, meat or fish, nuts, grains, candy, and bakery goods. 'Precheckout bag' does not include a bag used to prepackage items prior to their arrival in a store."

You will then have to buy prepackaged produce like Aldi sells.

Peoples just need to understand that bags with about .1 ounce of plastic each are not worth the time of $15+/hour people to recycle. Place them in the trash or use them as trash bags.

LOL. Good one. They should let us at least allow us to pull one of the little bags over their heads.

Just last night I overheard a group of college students talking about why one of them quit and he complained no one would go get carts when scheduled except him.

Many stores have sprinklers to keep produce in good shape.

Just carry a string bag. Men can shove it in a pocket when not in use. Woman can carry it easily in a hand bag...compresses to a small ball. Very handy when needing to stand in line quickly for fast disappearing groceries.

Back to the old USSR.

The kids at my store get annoyed at me when I ask for my 6pk of soda to be bagged, or a cantaloupe. I do not think the newer generation understands what the bags are for. Obviously they have never brought the groceries in for mom.

Walmart recently introduced a sealed plastic bag for their rositeer(sp) chicken as opposed to the leaking sealed plastic tub...love it.

Yes, that wet produce going into a paper bag is going to be wonderful later in your trip when you bring it to the checkout line.

My first job out of college was with a drug store chain as a manager trainee. We solved that problem way back then (early 1980s) by giving ambitious neighborhood kids a stamp card. Every card they brought in would be counted by a designated employee and their card would be stamped.

I think it was 50 stamps and you got a voucher for $2.50 to spend in the store. The smart kids in the neighborhood figured out when the peak cart usage times were during the day and would bring in 10 or 12 carts at a time. It didn't take long to fill their card during those hours.

I’ve recently come to the same conclusion. This place is irretrievably corrupt and beyond reform.

Hilarious!

In the late 70’s to the mid 80’s, I worked in grocery stores.
I remember the HUGE push for plastic - “it’s RECYCLABLE!!”
AND “paper bags kill trees!!!”

“Save the earth! - Go plastic!!”

Lol! These people were idiots back then; they’re still idiots now.
