A 17-year-old boy who was shot several times by a rookie cop as he sat in his car eating a McDonald's cheeseburger is currently on life support after several of his organs were punctured during the shooting.
The family of Erik Cantu say the teenager has had to undergo a number of surgeries to repair major organs that were damaged by gunfire, according to attorney Brian Powers, who spoke to DailyMail.com
Cantu's lungs are effectively being operated by the life support machine and he remains under sedation while his body takes the time it needs to recover.
Powers said that Cantu faces a long road to recovery but that his family are thankful for the prayers they have received.
The rookie San Antonio cop, James Brennand, 25, who shot Cantu, who was unarmed, has since been fired.
Brennand is a married former soldier who was commended for his firearm skills while in the police academy.
Erik Cantu was hospitalized at nearby University Hospital following the shooting. Following the shooting, Brennand administered CPR while he waited for paramedics.
'Erik and our family would like to thank all of our family, friends, the great city of San Antonio and everyone around the world that has sent their heartfelt prayers and blessings,' Powers said in a statement.

It was NOT a righteous shot by the cop. But when he was shot he was not “sitting eating a hamburger”, he was fleeing. Still, the shooting was not justified.
That is why I said he went into “panic mode” when he saw the gun. Did you see his eyes? It was like in the cartoons we watched as a kid, when the eyes come out in stages. I can tell the kid like totally freaked out.
All this dumbass cop had to do was knock on the driver’s window and talk
If I believed a cop was trying to murder me (ie shoot me for an unlawful reason), I would be evading and fleeing as well. Probably returning fire if I couldn’t flee.
Talk to the people murdered by new orleans cops when the hurricane rolled through.
How about hang the POS Cop?.
All you folks yesterday loud-mouthing about it being the kids fault.
Inexperienced, yahoo, badge&gun big shot crap cop nearly murdered a kid that was sitting in his car eating a burger.
Ripped the door open, kid took off cop starts blasting.
When cops get rid of their own garbage, then we’ll come back on their side.
Until then, THEY are not on your side. Don’t be a stooge and be on their side.
True. Cantu’s family should pray hard that he dies then they will have hit the lotto jackpot and they will be multi-generationally rich. More than Mr. Cantu in a long life in SA.
They pray his son will recover enough to be able to function, even minimally. No amount of money can replace a lost child.
Was this the car that had evaded the officer previously? I don’t think I’ve seen a definitive answer to that.
> It was NOT a righteous shot by the cop. But when he was shot he was not “sitting eating a hamburger”, he was fleeing. <
I agree. The kid evidently had a bad plate on his car. And he was fleeing. But the cop was in no danger. And neither was anyone else. Fleeing with a bad plate on your car should not warrant the death sentence.
The article says the cop “was commended for his firearm skills while in the police academy”. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. If your favorite tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
You can spin all you like this nitwit cop created the situation, trying to blame the victim is repugnant
From what I gathered, his license plate was completely fine.
The ignorant cop simply thought it was a car he’d seen before that he never got the plates off of. In the video, he is calling in the plates for the first time, on an innocent driver. He fires nearly a dozen times at some who had no weapon.
San Antonio needs to feel a ton of pain over this and that cop need the electric chair.
You’re OVERREACTING. I was not trying to “blame the victim” at all. I was essentially criticizing the INCORRECT HEADLINE and the first sentence which were INTENTIONALLY misleading, IMHO. The fault for this bad shooting belongs to the cop, wholly.
“Teenage boy, 17, shot multiple times by rookie cop while eating cheeseburger in McDonald’s parking lot is on LIFE SUPPORT after major organs were punctured.”
Probably had his lungs blown out by the those 9 mm bullets.
There is no reason to fire on an innocent person fleeing without any weapons and who clearly had a girl in the front seat eating with him. The evil cop just kept firing away at point blank range against a completely nonthreatening set of persons.
He could have put down a spike strip or had backup with him, but he had his gun ready and wanted to kill someone.
WTH
No, white people need to stop whining and blubbering and sharpen their axes and start to carry everywhere. Blubbering only makes the ferals really happy and confirms their belief that they have whitey buffaloed and frightened.
From what I’ve read, no.
Fast food is dangerous for one’s health.
Are you on drugs? This is a conservative page. Who are you communicating with and who are you calling whitey.
