It was NOT a righteous shot by the cop. But when he was shot he was not “sitting eating a hamburger”, he was fleeing. Still, the shooting was not justified.
That is why I said he went into “panic mode” when he saw the gun. Did you see his eyes? It was like in the cartoons we watched as a kid, when the eyes come out in stages. I can tell the kid like totally freaked out.
If I believed a cop was trying to murder me (ie shoot me for an unlawful reason), I would be evading and fleeing as well. Probably returning fire if I couldn’t flee.
Talk to the people murdered by new orleans cops when the hurricane rolled through.
True. Cantu’s family should pray hard that he dies then they will have hit the lotto jackpot and they will be multi-generationally rich. More than Mr. Cantu in a long life in SA.

I agree. The kid evidently had a bad plate on his car. And he was fleeing. But the cop was in no danger. And neither was anyone else. Fleeing with a bad plate on your car should not warrant the death sentence.
The article says the cop “was commended for his firearm skills while in the police academy”. I wonder if that had anything to do with it. If your favorite tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
You can spin all you like this nitwit cop created the situation, trying to blame the victim is repugnant
There is no reason to fire on an innocent person fleeing without any weapons and who clearly had a girl in the front seat eating with him. The evil cop just kept firing away at point blank range against a completely nonthreatening set of persons.
He could have put down a spike strip or had backup with him, but he had his gun ready and wanted to kill someone.
