We all know it in our hearts to be true: It’s all down hill from here.
Well, at least half of us do anyway. When it comes to the aspiration of upward mobility, 46% of Americans say that it’s harder now to achieve a good standard of living than it was for their parents, according to a study from the University of Chicago and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
The consensus among the more than 1,000 adults ages 18 and older was that a good standard of living is still important: Americans generally across the board value being able to pursue passions, own a home, raise a family, and have a successful career.
For all the rebukes of hustle culture and the old school American Dream that have surfaced in the wake of the pandemic, the ability to actually achieve those goals has been depressed over generations.

Stop voting for Rats
Go Galt!!!
Let them cower in darkness, freeze, and starve!
gotta be another PetRock out there someplace...
QUIT VOTING FOR PINKOS, IDIOTS!
It’s really that simple.
Yup it’s over
Off to GULAG.
Fewer and fewer. The power brokers behind the curtains didn't have the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade because they suddenly cared about the lives of innocent children or about the Constitution, they did it because foreign-born residents now have a negative birth rate too.
You stupid moronic young people-——that’s what MAGA and Donald Trump were all about. You had the chance you lousy fools.
You insulted and laughed at us for trying to save America from totalitarian Chinese style Communism.
And you can shove your mythical man-made climate change while you’re are it. One restriction after another on capitalism is part of why you’re killing the American Dream.
This country has had it. Not even Trump can save America. When you have crooked politicians, crooked law enforcement, crooked judicial system, you have a third world country. It the thousands of terrorist coming through our southern border don’t finish us off, the sick and dying economy will.
The American Dream is dying?
Somebody tell the two million wetbacks who just walked in here and the hundreds of thousand of other jabbering Third World mutts coming here every year .
“it’s only downhill from here”
Odd headline that I don’t understand. Where I come from, when you say it’s only downhill from here it means that you are coasting or that things are easy. When you’re going uphill, it’s usually a struggle.

“That's why they call it the American Dream, because you have
to be asleep to believe it.”

I’m 80 so not a “younger people” type. In the last few years, nothing has gotten better. Go to WalMart, one self service lane open with a 30 person line waiting, one of 18 cashier lanes open. Seems everywhere you look, things are not as good as they were, and nothing “new” is better. Glad I lived when I did.
I have posted this before:
I was in Mongolia a few years after the demise of the Soviet Union. These were a people relearning their past and EXCITED about the future.
It was like the new frontier, all the old rules were gone. 80 years of communism had not eliminated entrepreneurship.
Their rediscovered heritage was Ghengis Kahn and Buddhism.
What will we rediscover?
“Shall I go on?”

Neh it would just make me physically ill. I get it. We’re so screwed.
On July 4 we recognize the Declaration of Independence defining the American Dream as inalienable natural liberties including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They represent intangible property sourced in opinion, religion, communications, use of abilities to labor physically and mentally, and in conscience. Only by application of these inherent rights can one truly possess material things. The Constitution established a government embodying these treasured rights by promoting the general welfare and securing the blessings of liberty.
Whatever the Constitution defined was never an American Dream providing government largess to ensure college funds, retirement accounts, savings, affordable health care, home ownership, lifetime employment, corporate wealth, political careers, and union benefits.
However, politicians become patricians offer enchanting elements of material security such as described above, while obscuring subservience to administrative laws and regulations vastly increasing their power. Their legislation and rules negate our Bill of Rights confiscating intangible human freedoms for these apparitions.
Such devices are the soft underbelly of our Constitution. Under English Common Law, basic to our Constitution, a person is innocent and not subject to the penalties of law until proved guilty. Administrative laws and regulations, like Roman Civil Law, subject people to government penalties and restrictions until they find legal means to extricate themselves.
People now routinely make unconscious Faustian like bargains to exchange their human essence for illusions of material comfort. True freedom requires uncompromising adherence to the concept of property defined as inherent, intangible natural rights.
