Mental Hospitals had an essential function in society. The do-good civil rights activists, therapists, and politicians all got it wrong, and we are now paying the price with “homelessness” and clearly dangerous individuals in our midst. Insane asylums are necessary, but bringing them back would be impossible today.

You are so right!

Add to that the fact that anyone who is an adult is next to impossible to get committed to a mental health facility; you are lucky to get a 72 hour hold. Adults are considered competent to make their own decisions, even when anyone with sense would realize they are no more competent than an 85 year old with dementia, or a young child.

Admittedly there were abuses in the past, but we swung the pendulum way too far the other way.

Somehow being homeless or living in squalor or in jail is more “dignified” than being put into a mental institution.

Insane asylums are necessary indeed the feds need to stop supporting all the illegals for life and construct more insane asylums to make the streets safer.

In the 70’s they shut many of the down and released them into the public arena it was a trade for illegal cheap labor.
