Good post—you have given the most rational explanation of what appears to be irrational corporate behavior.

Announcing “goals” just requires PR flaks to flap their mouths.

They better hope the market does not take them seriously or their stock will crash in a hurry.

Toyota is watching their competition self destruct on the alter of woke greeness.

Toyota realized and the rest of the auto world is becoming aware that hydrogen-powered automobiles is the future.

Well, what do you expect of government motors? They took the “loan” and unlike Tesla, never paid it back. And won’t.

Wish GM or Ford would make a small, gasoline, normally-aspirated rugged economy car with no electronics... something EMP- proof. Market it as such.
Would be a smash.”

India would be the party that makes these in India and exports to the USA. Same as their Mahindra tractors and farm equipment that they advertised on Rush Limbaugh show.

GM and Ford will make higher tech automobiles, there is more profit in them. But same as you I would love such a car. Like ye old pinto or vega but fuel injected. EMP proofed!

That vehicle couldn’t be Federalized, between the EPA and NHTSA-the electronics are used for pollution control and safety.

Ford does sell the Maverick compact pickup which starts at $25K...and is already sold out for 2023!

If you’re going to invest in Automotive, stick to Toyota.

All others will crash and burn. The physics say so.

“ And I’m not anti-EV. I like EV’s if they were sold in a free market. My wife and I like both our EV and our ICE pickup. I hate the gubment strong-arming companies like Ford to make EV’s.”

Exactly. I’m with you on the ridiculous CAFE standards, too.

If a car company can master the “skateboard” technique and be able to put anything from a 2 door to an SUV to a small pickup on that skateboard they could make affordable commuter vehicles that would sell like hotcakes.

And if they had 2 brain cells to rub together it would be IN ADDITION TO gasoline cars and trucks.

“They are going 100% EV...... “

They’ll be going 100% bankrupt then. Unless they can scam up another bailout.

No thanks. I’m not a fan of fishtailing on the road if there is a light drizzle. Forget about driving in the snow.

Not everyone lives in the snow belt. It would be nice to have a choice.

“Not everyone lives in the snow belt.”

True, but they don’t manufacture cars for regional sale.

Remember the Suzuki Samuri?

A coworker of mine had one with the bumper sticker "When I grow up, I want to be a Jeep."

They should manufacture cars and give us a choice. Rear wheel drive is superior and that is why every luxury car is based on a rear wheel drive platform. But us prols get no choice. In a way you are correct. They are manufacturing cars for regional sales, northern regional sales.

So Cadillacs are not luxury cars I guess? Because they’ve been front wheel drive since they switched to the Northstar engine.
