Severe preeclampsia treated safely with nifedipine during labor and delivery
Medical Xpress / American Heart Association / Hypertension ^ | Oct. 3, 2022 | Erin M. Cleary, M.D. et al

Women with severe preeclampsia (severe high blood pressure) during pregnancy may be treated with extended-release nifedipine, a blood pressure-lowering medicine, daily during the labor and delivery process, according to research. Women treated with the medicine were less likely to experience dangerously high blood pressure that would require treatment with fast-acting medicines including intravenous (IV) medications.

Preeclampsia is typically diagnosed after 20 weeks of pregnancy and indicates high blood pressure measures with symptoms such as headaches, vision changes and swelling of the hands, feet, face or eyes.

"We know that bringing down very high blood pressure to a safer range will help prevent maternal and fetal complications. However, besides rapid-acting, IV medicines for severe hypertension during pregnancy, optimal management for hypertension during the labor and delivery process, has not been studied," said Erin M. Cleary, M.D.

"Some complications may include emergency delivery, blood loss for the mother and may be life threatening for both mother and baby," Cleary said. "About 10% of patients treated with a rapid-IV treatment for very high blood pressure may quickly have very low blood pressures. When blood pressure gets too low, too fast, that can lead to other serious complications."

The study participants were randomly assigned to take one 30 mg pill of nifedipine extended-release each day until delivery.

The study found:

- 34% of women in the nifedipine group needed acute hypertension therapy (immediate reduction in blood pressure) compared to 55.1% of those in the placebo group. - There were fewer Cesarean deliveries among the women treated with nifedipine: 20.8% of women in the nifedipine treatment group had a Cesarean section, compared to 34.7% of women in the placebo group. - The rate of NICU admission for the newborns was lower if the mother was treated with nifedipine (29.1%) compared to the placebo group (47.1%).

This is a very cheap drug and it appears to have no drawbacks for use on the mother or baby.

Pharmaceutical companies to the rescue! The best way to lower your blood pressure is to not go into a hospital. Pregnant women are not sick. Get a midwife and have the baby at home. Light some candles and put on Yanni.

Bull. I lost my beloved baby and nearly died of preeclampsia, and it wasn’t because I couldn’t relax.

My kidneys were failing, my liver was damaged, my platelets were dropping, my blood pressure was in stroke territory, my muscles were breaking down, and I was weeping tears like glue.

You know nothing of it.

Not all “medicine” is bad nor is all research.

Don’t let the fraud committed during Covid blind you to things that are good and beneficial to mankind. Odds are decent that neither you nor I would be here if not for the good of medicine.

This is a medication with a pretty safe profile and this condition is a very serious one that impacts many women (and babies).

Agreed. But I’m a student of history and know the Rockefellerian influence on modern medicine. I think there is incontestable evidence that roughly 90% of US doctors are just the lap dogs of big pharma. Consider the precious few that questioned COVID and the forced poisonous inoculations.

It has been used for many (over 30) years for preterm labor so there is a lot of experience with it

I am incredibly disappointed with corporate medicine in America. I think institutions have been corrupted by organizations like the NEA, AFT, AMA, big pharma, think tanks, NGO’s and initiatives, the corporate media, big tech, etc etc.

Covid is the perfect illustration that is foremost in our minds.

This corruption is so complete that for the first time in human history “healers” were prevented from actively treating an illness. It was “hospital or bust” for those severely ill and “vaccine or nothing” with Covid.

We had no preventative care even with non-controversial things like vitamin D, zinc, and vitamin C. We had no off-label measures to help heal us from big medicine and now we are seeing that these things WERE effective (some of us knew then).

A sad chapter in the history of humanity. The average Joe would do well to step back and examine the track record of our elites on a whole range of topics to better assess their credibility.

We are living in a grand delusion.

Great points. When in the history of humanity did someone check to see if they were “sick” when they felt great?
The clearest indicator that it was a conspiracy was the immediate control it gave to otherwise powerless entities to eradicate basic human liberties in every facet of our lives.
Without the cooperation of the medical profession or rather medical business, it would not have been possible.

Any decent midwife would get a laboring mother with preeclampsia to a hospital asap.

So so sorry to hear your sad story. I watch Call The Midwife obsessively on Netflix. Birth is often beautiful, but not always the ending we dream of. My heart goes out to mothers who have to experience the saddest times. Thank you for responding …hopefully to enlighten and educate others.
