Listening to a few Rick Beato features like the link above - Episode 91 with Joni Mitchell.
Whether it's the top 20 guitar solos or it's this piece discussing Joni Mitchell it becomes obvious that from folk to metal to rock to county we have some brilliant musicians. They understand theory, phrasing, poetry, art.
Every aspiring musician that grabs a guitar and starts playing has to realize the complexity of music and the genius of some of these musicians from Larry Carlton to John Bonham.

I'm not a fan of either.
Yep!!
True. Sometimes Rap lyrics can be redeemed a bit and presented with melody, singing and instruments, as was done to this old Houston rap number in an unexpected, cross-genre exception to the norm:
- ZZ Top
You're right about those reaction videos, some of them are very entertaining. Have you seen the ones with the black dude geeking out over Roy Clark's guitar skills?
What is RAP?
Misogony, violent lyrics, hate, racism and nothing but a drum beat and free form narration. THAT is what rap is. That is why rap is crap.
Beato calls this “The WEIRDEST Pop Song Intro of All Time”...which it probably is but it’s also one of best Steely Dan tunes:

Nice classic Blond telecaster.
Oh, and Rick is sporting his Blue les Paul they built for him, I think they are a cool $3500
My high school garage band tried to cover this, and we never got the intro right.
All these years later, Beato just rolls through and explains what we could never quite figure out. (The first riff doesn’t really relate to the two power chords that follow, it just “sounds cool”.)
Beato’s channel is a great time machine back to the 70’s, brings back lots of good times, and much insight to songs that I thought I knew well.
No...I’ll look for it.
I enjoyed watching them hearing some Metallica (”One”, “Master of Puppets”) for the first time....or seeing the 1991 concert in Russia with 1M people. Their jaws drop.

He certainly understands music at a level far beyond me. But then most musicians probably do. All the same I enjoy hearing him break down songs even if some of it makes my eyes glaze over.
He broke down one of my favorite Metheny songs,”April Joy”, made me really appreciate just how great he was even in the era he was just starting out.
LOL, I guess technically ZZ Top’s “Manic Mechanic” is a rap song......That’s Right!
Saw that one.
Also check out his interview with Peter Frampton.
It is all about the rythem.
I had Deguello on cassette, Manic Mechanic is definitely an oddball tune. I think Blondie's "Rapture" was on the radio at around the same time, so there might've been some spoken-lyric influence going around. At the time, it just felt like a novelty tune... a bit later in the '70s than most.
Yep, caught that.
I like him
Genial
He seems to play guitar decent
I’m not a good judge
My watermelon cousin in San Fran who can actually play well
Player college regional bands and a stone tribute band in Bay Area for decades
He’s of course critical of these player commentator guys on you tube
