Congratulations. You’ve just purchased one of the most expensive high-performance electric trucks on the market.
You’ve gone green and you’ve done it in style with the GMC Hummer, starting at $86,645. That’s right — the Hummer’s now a green vehicle! What was once the biggest villain in the left’s war on fossil fuels is now the poster child for responsible off-roading....
The video begins with standard 120V charging — or Level 1 charging, to use official jargon. This is the standard current your home already offers.
“Right now it’s about 6 p.m. on Tuesday,” the man says. “And it says it will be full by Saturday at 10:55 [p.m.], which is four-plus days of charging. Wow.”
However, our intrepid Hummer owner had one of those — the JuiceBox, a 240v charger, installed in his garage.
How much difference did that make? Not as much as you might think. “Now it says it will be done tomorrow by 6:30 [p.m.],” the video narrator says. “So about 24 hours of charging from four percent to 100 percent.”.......
Car and Driver went to an Electrify America charging station, where it cost over $100 to “fill up” the Hummer at 43 cents per kilowatt hour....

That’s my point, home residences don’t have three phase power.
It depends. Some utilities will let you have it, some will not.
Some will charge you more for it, some will not.
But it is unusual in the US.
In reality, it is not that big a deal, and quite common abroad, but in the US everybody is paranoid about high voltage.
Probably the durn lawyers again?!
So an EV will never live up to the mileage claims made by all you virtue signalers. What a sick joke. 100% charge damages your battery? Another sick joke. I mean, you're already riding atop a Roman Candle and in prepping for a long trip and now to get the bang for your buck, each time you fully charge it is like adding another round to the chamber, sticking the pistol to your head and pulling the trigger. It's just a matter of time before your cylinder is full. The notion that 'nobody charges to 100%', is hog swallop.
“Actually the 120volt is the slow part for this idiot. If you spend that kind of money on an EV put a real charging outlet in your garage.”
Smart people read the article before posting.
EV’s are living in your head!
“The guy must be an effing idiot. Only an idiot would attempt to charge on 120v.”
Idiots post without reading the article.
Not really, but I am surprised it took you this long to come on here and comment anything.
Are you going to try and educate everyone now?
I read the article and watched the video. Everyone knows 120v charging is useless, so the guy only complained about it for added drama.
“Everyone knows 120v charging is useless, so the guy only complained about it for added drama.”
Just a short video showing charging times 120 and 220. Not complaining.
“The guy must be an effing idiot. Only an idiot would attempt to charge on 120v.”
He is NOT attempting to charge on 120v.
“Are you going to try and educate everyone now?”
I already have.
Well, not safe, but effective at separating EVfanboi fools from their money.
You might want to find a new line of work.
Then why mention 120V at all? The video starts with him plugging into a 120V outlet. Also, I suspect he has insufficient amperage on his 240V circuit.
If he was on a normal charge (90%) and a 50A circuit, his charge time would have been a fraction of what he claimed. I’d love to take a look inside his breaker box.
“Then why mention 120V at all?”
Just to trigger idiots
