On Monday we’re heading for a University of Tennessee function, Heritage Skills Seminar - Quilting On The Mountain four-day retreat. It’s always fun and educational to network and brainstorm with other quilters. Always come back with big ideas.
Love it!! I like the saying on comment #1, too.

Yesterday, with Ian remnants making going outdoors something you did not want to do, I buckled down to get some projects finished. Last year, I went to a church yard sale & sold some knitted fingerless mittens. The sale this year is in two weeks …. I have mittens to take, but I also just made 7 Tooth Fairy Pillows. My niece got one, just in time for her first ‘lost’ tooth …. the Tooth Fairy found her tooth in the little bag on the back of the pillow and left her a dollar! She’s thrilled ….. times have changed because I was getting a nickel, maybe a dime for a lost tooth …. if we ever got a quarter, that was really exciting!
Anyway, I had the remaining 6 pillows that needed the little tooth bags sewed on the back. I actually got it done in about 2 hours yesterday afternoon – woo hoo! I also got some gallon storage bags that I can put the pillows in to protect them while being transported and out on the display table at the yard sale. The pillows were made out of leftover cotton yarn scraps … still had to buy felt for the faces & the little bags.... not a lot of money in them, but plenty of time. Deciding what kind of a price to put on them is always the hard part - at yard sales, people expect a ‘deal’.
If you’re interested, pictures of the Tooth Fair Pillows are on last month’s thread:

Next project …. again for the yard sale. In 2014, I made a bunch of tote bags. I never sewed on the handles – it’s a real pain to do. I also was adding buttons (got them at a good sale at JoAnn’s) where the handles attach to the tote. I have 5 bags to do. Depending on the weather the next couple of days, if it’s rainy (supposed to be until Tuesday morning), maybe I can get all the handles on. If the weather breaks enough to go outside, then the goal is one tote per evening & I should have them done by next weekend.
There are a bunch of crocheted sun hats I was making, playing around with some patterns. If I can find them (in a bin somewhere!), they’ll go to the sale as well. There’s a knitted lace baby blanket … used up some yarn in a color that I thought I liked, but now … not so much – may stick a price tag on it & see what happens (lots of ‘looking’ is what I expect).
The best part of the yard sale is getting to talk to lots of people. Last year, I talked to two charming ladies – one knitted, one did crochet. I also bought two large plastic horses (with manes/tails that can be brushed) & cleaned them up, crocheted blankets for them, and gave them to my little great-nieces. “Arabella” & “Jalapeno” are much loved and the girls play with them all the time. I think I paid $2 for the horses (found one like Jalapeno on eBay for $69!!). I also bought 2 cast iron frying pans for $2 each. A cleanup & re-seasoning & they’re good to go – I love cast iron.
Future project that’s on the “must do soon” list for Christmas – Bobble Sheep Pillows for the girls. They had 4-H lambs this past spring for the first time, so pillows representing lambs ‘Acorn’ & ‘Persimmon’ are in the works.
I LOVE Outlander (books in particular, STARZ TV series was very good as well) .... and I love a man with a Scottish accent. I also love Louise’s knitting patterns (she has crochet patterns also). Lots of “love” going on here LOL!
So here’s some lovely Scottish accent from Graham McTavish (Dougal Mackenzie in the books/series):

The Heirloom Gardener just posted pics of making roses out of autumn leaves ... gorgeous! He did not have a link, so I looked around and found this one:

For those of you with FaceBook, here are the links to the HG post ... it is a public post, so even if you don’t have FB, you should be able to see it ... the pics are more full rose-like, not as much a ‘bud’.

Have you ever heard of “Thermal” stitches? I have some time back and forgotten all about it.
If you are looking for a very thick stitch, great for coasters, potholders, baskets, where you need a ‘double’ thickness, then this is the stitch. It’s actually easy - great video link in the instructions.
This would be a great pattern for scraps (I have lots of cotton thread scrap balls) & would make nice, small gifts. Some folks make washcloths in crochet/knit ... a coaster or a potholder would likely be just as welcome, if not more so.
