This cop calmly pulled up to an active shooter, put down his coffee, grabbed his rifle, and downed the perp from 180 yards with a single shot. Legend.

Ladies and gentlemen, this here is the most ice-cold gunslinging lawman in all of Washington:

[Warning: Violence]

video at link...........................

Yeah. Dude calmly parked, put down his coffee, grabbed his rifle, sighted in with his red dot, used the cruiser to brace himself, then downed an active shooter at 183 yards!

He was probably whistling the "Andy Griffith" tune the whole time too.

Suspect down.

Absolutely legendary.

More on this incident:

And from KIRO 7:

The Pierce County Force Investigation Team released the video as part of its ongoing investigation into the shooting. Investigators concluded Collins fired off 15 rounds, while Tacoma police officers returned nine rounds, all of them over a 16-minute period.

The last shot came from a TPD officer, identified as Christopher Munn, who fired his weapon 183 yards away.

If we get Officer Munn together with Eli Dickens, we could take out every bad guy from LA to New York! P.S. Now check out our latest video: "Highlights from Biden's speech last night" 👇

180 yards? I’ve dropped deer farther away with a 30-30 and open sights.

I use a Site Lite 150 with their ballistic software to get close then fine tune. Even worked with a Sharps in .45-70 with a vernier sight. Got within 4” of the bull first shot. With the price of that ammo, blundering around would have been costly.

"AR 15s shoot flat from 0-200 yards. "

I use what are called RIBZ sights on my AR. This stands for Revised, Improved Battle Zero. This technique allows one to set the sights for zero at 200 yards. The rifle will then also be zeroed at 50 yards. The fired round then will reach about two inches high at about 125 yards. At the muzzle, the round will be about two inches low.

Given my skill with open sights, that is pretty much "flat" all the way out to maybe 225 yards.

Might be why he shot from so far away — could put his donut down with no fear some other copper would pinch it.

On the police feed they call it a “patrol rifle.”

Yes, that’s what I call them now.

Good man. Well trained, and deadly.
Note that he asked no one for permission to fire.
He ID’d the perp, and took him out.

Buy him a case of wine!

You might be able to bag a deer at 180 yards, but this is a situation in a populated area. I have a Marlin 336 in 30-30, but the ballistics at 180 yards drop quite a bit. My Marlin is sighted in at 100 yards. I have shot at 200 yard targets, and my memory of doing that with open sites is that the entire large black bulls eye is pretty well obscured by the sights.

I thought I read that the cop had an AR red dot sight. If so they are commonly 3,5,6 or 8 MOA dots. At 200 yards a 5 MOA dot would cover about a 10 inch circle. Considering wind and a whole host of things, it would not be unthinkable that that AR might have “missed” the target depending on how the criminal was standing, as a sideways center of mass would not be all that big.

In your deer example if you missed the bullet would probably go quite a ways beyond the target into woods. In an urban setting, if the cop missed, the bullet would continue quite a ways but there could be people and houses behind the criminal.

My point was that this seemed like a bit risky in an urban setting. Again, I am glad things turned out the way they did and I hope that the officer is cleared in any use of deadly force internal investigation.

However, the deer couldn't shoot back at you.
