Christian School Under Fire Due to Homework Asking for Pictures 'In the Bathtub'
Charisma News ^ | September 28, 2022 | JAMES LASHER

In today's world, discernment is a critical tool for parents raising their children. This includes when dealing with schools that claim to be Christian. A parent or guardian needs to be diligent and discerning in all matters concerning their child or children.

This was the case for Misty Dunham when she observed an unusual homework assignment her 8-year-old daughter was given by her teacher. The assignment was to take a picture while reading in the bathtub, and this did not sit well with Misty.

Dunham reached out to the teacher saying, "I emailed the teacher [to say] 'Hey, you may want to explain that. Send something out to the parents. Let them know what the intentions are.' This just does not sound ok."

Mrs. Dunham was not satisfied with the teacher's response. "She did send out a message saying, 'you should be in pajamas, be in your uniform, have fun with it.' But it didn't sit right," Dunham explained. "A bathtub is not appropriate for a child to take a picture."

Misty is correct, in this day and age a parent cannot be too careful when it comes to the safety of their children. Too many breeches of trust have given parents a cause for concern even in potentially innocent situations with teachers, sitters, troop leaders or any adult in a position of authority over their children.

Dunham decided to bring this to the attention of the school's administration. The response came back much more defensive and combative than one would expect.

The school told her, "We have been sending this homework assignment for years, and you're the only one complaining about it. Just cover your child in pillows or pajamas," according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's police report.

I have no words. They are no longer hiding their evil of pedophilia, and this is NO "Christian" school.

The school apparently expelled the child because the parent questioned the assignment. The child is the winner because the school is not an upright, moral establishment. There should be more of an uproar locally about the judgement of the school in promoting that assignment and in expelling a child because they were questioned. The elephant in the room is that you are naked in a bathtub and no one should be getting kids comfortable taking pictures of themselves naked or in a situation where nakedness is the norm. This is grooming.

We had something like this when we were in like kindergarten. It wasn’t lewd, just meant as a fun exercise. Granted, I was in kindergarten almost 40 years ago, so it was a different time.

Nowadays I wouldn’t trust an educator to feed my kid let alone give them pictures in a bathtub.

With emphasis: THIS IS GROOMING. IT IS NOT PERMISSABLE AND CANNOT BE TOLERATED.

How would anyone think that this is appropriate in any context? The perverts are real. We are well beyond “consenting adults in the privacy of their bedrooms.” That was the leverage point to get “conservatives” to look the other way until it was too late.

This is a Yelp review from THREE years ago WOW:

“WARNING!!! Parents of children that are black and brown please be advised your child will be treated, disciplined and introduced to an prejudice society with this school. Staff presents themselves as Christian based but are very vindictive if you disagree with their outlook. Staff views passionate parents as renegades for having opinions. Staff will take every opportunity to weaponize innocent child fun. Staff is reluctant to pursue alternative practices and will only blame your child. Staff discourages any parent involvement with teachers. Overall I would say this is a poor school because of the structure. No leadership and staff is weak from top to bottom. I wouldn’t recommend ANY parents here”

Read the phrase “grocery store christian” recently, you can basically pick and choose what you want to agree/disagree with. It was a phrase that hit a bit too close to home for me.

I’ve heard it described as a “cafeteria christian.”

If this assignment were as innocent as they claim, they shouldn’t need the overreaction of expelling the objecting child from school. There should have been an alternate assignment for the same credit. ‘In the Bathtub’ homework might be ‘fun’, but it’s not essential to learning, and they know it. Good for the parents for paying attention and reasonably speaking up.

Someone needs to check the bathrooms for hidden cameras.

Apparently at least one other parent complained about something that supports what the current parent said about the school’s attitude.

Did anybody explain why this was an assignment? For what academic purpose would there be to have anybody, let alone children of that age, do this? And for so many people to defend this?

Absolute definition of evil lunacy . . .

Ok, even if we assume it was just an innocent assignment....What was the point?

I don’t know anything about the school and am not commenting on the article, but the review says nothing. What does “weaponize innocent child fun” mean? Did the mean school interrupt a male student having “innocent child fun” in the girl’s bathroom? What does it mean to “disagree with their outlook”? Staff will “only blame your child”? Sounds like that’s exactly what they should do, if the child is acting up.

It really sounds like a student with disciplinary issues was placed in the school and the parent is complaining that they punished them for acting up.

“The school told her, “We have been sending this homework assignment for years, and you’re the only one complaining about it. Just cover your child in pillows or pajamas,”

That response to this current complaint is a little dismissive wouldn’t you say?.....it is to me anyway.

That alone would make me uncomfortable.

There still needs to be oversight IMO.
