Drinking two to three cups of coffee a day is linked with a longer lifespan and lower risk of cardiovascular disease compared with avoiding coffee. The findings applied to ground, instant and decaffeinated varieties.
"In this large observational study, ground, instant and decaffeinated coffee were associated with equivalent reductions in the incidence of cardiovascular disease and death from cardiovascular disease or any cause," said Professor Peter Kistler.
Coffee drinkers were compared to non-drinkers for the incidence of arrhythmias, cardiovascular disease and death, after adjusting for age, sex, ethnicity, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, smoking status, and tea and alcohol consumption. The median follow up was 12.5 years.
All types of coffee were linked with a reduction in death from any cause. The greatest risk reduction seen with two to three cups per day, which compared to no coffee drinking was associated with a 14%, 27% and 11% lower likelihood of death for decaffeinated, ground, and instant preparations, respectively.
All coffee subtypes were associated with a reduction in incident cardiovascular disease. Again, the lowest risk was observed with two to three cups a day, which compared to abstinence from coffee was associated with a 6%, 20%, and 9% reduced likelihood of cardiovascular disease for decaffeinated, ground, instant coffee, respectively.
Ground and instant coffee, but not decaffeinated, were associated with a reduction in arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation. Compared with non-drinkers, the lowest risks were observed with four to five cups a day for ground coffee and two to three cups a day for instant coffee, with 17% and 12% reduced risks, respectively.
Professor Kistler said, "It is likely that the non-caffeinated compounds were responsible for the positive relationships observed. Our findings indicate that drinking modest amounts of coffee of all types can be enjoyed as a heart healthy behavior."

As much as I like the results...this means the study was totally worthless:
“after adjusting for age, sex, ethnicity, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, smoking status, and tea and alcohol consumption”
You CANNOT statistically adjust for a factor unless you first know how much of a factor it is. Exactly HOW much does blood pressure affect things? Are you talking 140/90 or 190/120? Will “high blood pressure” result in a 12% increase or 14% increase or 1% increase? No one knows, just as no one knows if 140/90 actually affects anything! And how do you measure blood pressure? The study that was used to create a lower threshold had participants wait in a darkened room listening to soft music for 15 minutes before their blood pressure was taken. Who does that in the real world?
If 12% of coffee drinkers had higher blood pressure in varying degrees, how does one remove that from how it affects the outcome?
YOU CANNOT STATISTICALLY ADJUST FOR FACTORS OF UNKNOWN SIZE!
I’m freaking Methuselah.
If I drink too much caffeine coffee I get the runs. I’ve had to cut back on the caffeine.
Would be excellent if you could do that through out the winter.
A lot of beds sold these days vibrate. Mine does. I have it set on low vibrate because it makes too much racket if I set it on high.

If all this woke crap keeps up, I’m quitting coffee tomorrow.

All my girlfriends know the exception is honey. Not sugar . But 99% it’s raw black coffee.
That depends largely on the size of mug, now doesn’t it?
I guess you have to have some sort of unit of measurement.
Me? I have mugs that are about 8, some 12, some are 24, some 36.
What is it about coffee that is so healthy? Sounds as if it is the coffee beans themselves.
Your cups floweth over.
Folgers 100% Colombian for me. I’ve been known to partake their instant too. In the Army on training deployments it was Tasters Choice freeze dried. Mixed with Parmalat milk and the MRE cocoa packet was the Mocha bomb.
Same here...beans are freshly ground a cup at a time for my wife and I, then we each use a splash of half and half...sugar is poison, and we don’t use it. Ick.
Most definitely!
