A new viral video is bound to drive a stake through the heart of every Ferrarista out there, if not every car enthusiast: an early 1994 classic perished in a spontaneous fire on a French highway, and there was nothing left to salvage from it. The potential buyer mentioned above, as well as the current owner, were both inside the car when the blaze started.

These days, a unit retails for anything between $90,000 and $200,000, or in rare cases as much as $400,000, depending on condition.

Forensic Files - Season 7, Episode 41 - Plastic Fire - Full Episode

Sheila Bryan, who was convicted of killing her mother in a car fire, is granted a new trial. An expert fire witness’s opinion on how the fire ignited differs from the prosecution’s theory. If verified, it would clear Bryan of any culpability.

A neighbor’s four-week-old Ford was sitting in the garage when it caught fire... Ford and an army of fire investigators descended and spent weeks... Ford paid.

He’s VERY lucky this happened. Those cars are maintenance NIGHTMARES. The engine out service for timing belt replacements are SUPPOSED to be done yearly, or every 15k miles. (Price $8k when I priced it back in 2000).

Think about that. If nothing else breaks, which is rare, you’re STILL spending $8k a year to keep that POS on the road.

I was glad that I read this before I pulled the trigger in 2000: http://www.nsxfiles.com/f355_update.htm

No it isn’t a EV it’s a old Ferrari with known fire problems.

Back to a lithium-ion battery installed instead on older type?

They cause problems in ICE vehicles too.

But it isn’t the gas or diesel engine that catches fire just sitting there not running. It is the battery.

My old Supra was a really nice GT car and it didn’t cost thousands to maintain it.
Of course it didn’t say Ferrari on the back but the girls still liked it..

The political class… the ‘cheese eaters’. Not the cheese producers are the problem.

Worse than that!
But some good news...
A friend had a Ferrari for years, the internet is a HUGE help. Many of the components are not manufactured by Ferrari and are used on lesser vehicles.
The clubs and user groups are ever-watching, cataloging, and listing the best price sources. Also, some very specialized shops where you send them the engine and they do the rebuild, IIRC about half the dealer price.

Everyone is aware of the maintenance cost and the amount is deducted from a sale price if not performed.

My friend working like a surgeon and dropped a very small screw on an engine out overhual and had the plugs out at the time... Lights, video probes, magnets... weeping, wailing, gnashing of teeth... It could NOT be found!
A decision was made to complete the overhaul.
It started and ran fine, and still does!!!

Pro Tip: If your internal combustion engine vehicle develops a engine fire, turn off the ignition and fuel pump to stop feeding the fire.
