A video of the electric bus that became a combustion engine!
GAB ^ | 23 Sept 2022

Posted on 09/23/2022 2:17:40 PM PDT by DUMBGRUNT

Approximately 8 seconds before the bus is engulfed in flames. Not enough time to get a busload of people off the bus......

Not to worry! NO Frenchies were harmed beyond the pockbook.

But, but, we are saving the planet. If there are a few casualties along the way, well... sacrifices are necessary for any meaningful progress....right?

I wonder what the people on the unlit bus that drove away thought about that.

I would have pulled the emergency stop cord and jumped off of that one too.

A battery cannot by nature have a fuseable link for safety. Only the lead to the motor and systems controls can be fused. The lead from the charger to the battery can also be fused but not the battery itself. Collisions on the highways will likely short cells and cause enormous releases of energy like the one in this video. Water will not put the fire out. It will cause explosions. It needs to burn itself out and be contained while it billows out toxic metals into the environment. I have had three battery systems fires in the past 25 years inside factories. We had to evacuate the facilities each time. They occurred during charging. One lead-acid fire and two Lithium based battery fires. The kead-acid fire was in a control room with about 400 motor starters and drives at 4,600 volts. That battery system served as a backup power source in the event of sudden unplanned power outages. Halon was released for about ten minutes and it didn’t do much to extinguish the fire. In the end we had to cut a hole in the roof and let it burn itself out.

Below, for reference.

Now, picture the size of a 100-200 gallon tank of diesel in a big city bus, and how big the equivalent LiON battery would be.

Now, imagine trying to put out that LiON fire.

“Water will not put the fire out. It will cause explosions. “

Secure a large, continuous and sustainable water supply — one or more fire hydrants or multiple water tenders

Use a large volume of water such as master stream, 2½-inch or multiple 1¾-inch fire lines to suppress and cool the fire and the battery
