Here's something very unusual: An episode of "Hoarders" that won't make you feel disgusted. "Forrest," season 12, episode 2.

Looking at the first few minutes, he had his “collections” well ordered and organized (to the extent that available space allowed) and his house wasn’t filled with trash and old food. So yeah…not sad and disgusting like most hoarder shows.

The Meyers Briggs personality grouping calls what some call hoarders as clutter. Hollywood has made class of people they call hoarders to make money on phony programs. What about the governments and their hoarding of resources that people should use?

These people are not hoarders. They are slobs. What are they hoarding? Trash, cigarette butts, rotten food, dog and cat crap, mouse turds.

It disgusts me that people will let other people get this far gone in their mental illness before they will step up and do something to help them. The show shows all the muck and outright disease filled houses they’ve caused. The solution’s always the same. They come and clean up the horrible mess and think it’s all going to be Okay now. It’s sickening to watch and it always pisses me off. I stopped watching after seeing a few episodes of this dreck.

I wonder how common hoarding is? I wonder if a clinical definition exists and if there are any stats on it. I’ve known several people who had extreme packrat tendencies. The other day at the grocery store I was talking with a lady who turned out to be a “decluttering coach.” Her theory was that hoarding gave some people a sense of control over their lives. Her approach was to teach people to replace the false sense of control they got through hoarding with the actual control of being uncluttered and organized.

I’ve never seen the show, but I watched this video. Basically it’s just another “human drama” reality show, based on a “hoarders” premise.

Meh.

Isn’t the Administration’s approved word now “Collector”?

I’m helping a “Hoarder” right now. I could not even open the front door as it filled everywhere inside. The clutter was 5 ft high in every room. It is a relatively new home in a nice development. From the outside you would never know it.

The woman has cancer and can’t stay in her home so I secured it for her. Changed the locks and made sure the heat and electric were working.

There was no food type garbage. Just clutter everywhere piled up. It definitely is a psychological issue.

The problem with Reality shows is that they are all scripted and fake. Besides the obvious scripted fakery the simple fact of pointing a camera at someone changes their behavior. Any photographer knows this.

Good for him, no one else’s business, there are no laws against it. OCD is a mental illness too.

I’d have to agree. It is just too creepy and disturbing to see how horders live.

“I wonder how common hoarding is?”

It is a lot more common than you think. Most rich people who have housekeepers have them for a reason. They are slobs... Like spoiled kids their houses would be a total dump without a housekeeper.

I was channel surfing and stumbled upon this show and watched a few episodes. A few days later we ordered a dumpster and I can’t stop purging! After 40+ years here we’ve literally emptied the attic, dumped out closets, dresser drawers, kitchen cabinets and more. The basement is next, then the garage! It feels so good, and it’s all because of a TV show! Go figure…

Years ago I saw something on the tube about a guy in NYC who lived in a small apartment that was absolutely chock full (floor to ceiling) of newspapers. Nothing biological like in many of these shows...just newspapers.

There are many disorders in humans. The worst example does not explain a general population.
