The Arizona gubernatorial candidate and the Republican attorney general candidate were not going to accept the reporter’s premise.
A huge rhetorical error is to get entangled in your opponent’s fake premise. We all recognize that problem with the hypothetical “when did you stop beating your wife” question, but Republican politicians often find themselves playing defense against a fundamentally flawed question. Kari Lake, however, does not do that. Her response to a reporter’s loaded question about Blacks and police shows how to avoid this rhetorical trap.
Lake, who is running against Katie Dobbs to be governor of California. appeared at a press conference against an Arizona Police Association backdrop. An unseen reporter fired off a loaded question:
Kari, a lot of people of color feel like they are unfairly targeted by police. Are they wrong to feel that way? And regardless of if there’s any merit there, what can you as governor do to improve the perception of police?
Most Republican politicians when asked such a question would have begun a stumbling defense about how most police are good people, but it’s up to everyone to make sure to protect the minority community from bad police, and blah, blah, blah. In other words, they would have accepted the premise while, at the same time, trying to walk away from it. It’s a normal human response, but a bad one if you’re running for office.
Kari Lake doesn’t respond that way. She immediately questioned the reporter’s premise: “A lot of people of color? How many people of color have you talked to about that?”

Adolf was actually a very good debater and public speaker, but it was his brown shirts that got him into power, the Gestapo that kept him there, and Goebbels’ propaganda machine that molded the public mind. The Democrats know this, hence their BLM/Antifa version of the brown shirts, their use of the FBI/DOJ as Gestapo/Stasi, and of course the MSM as the ministry of propaganda. MAGA politicians understand all this, and fight back accordingly; Trump was the first, but thank God he is not the last.
Excellent summary and analysis. Thanks for that post
*** Lake, who is running against Katie Dobbs to be governor of California***
Whenever I see simple mistakes like this in an article, it immediately makes me wonder how much else they got wrong within the body of it.
“She then said thank you and walked away. Was glorious.”
Glorious!
Kari seems really nimble on her rhetorical feet. I have no doubt this is the REAL reason Hobbs avoids debating her.
Don't ya just love "autocorrect?" It does that crap to me as well!
This is all true but she (and DeSantis and, to a lesser degree Trump) show the key is to refuse to accept an inflammatory false premise. Don Lemon will ask questions like "Many people are saying that Republicans want to kill grandmothers, what can you say to make them feel safe?" and stupid republicans will talk about how mportant it is for grandmas to feel safe and how they are supporting legislation for more police or something and NEVER challange the real point of the question, which was they "reporter" making a highly biased assertion about the republican's character or purpose of their policies.
Don't answer a false premise, call them on it every single time. She knows this. Probably because she assumes they are the enemy, as you say. Which is correct.
*There were some similarities between Nazism and Fascism, but far more differences.*
DFW-teachable. Please explain.
*So far the GOPe seem to be distancing themselves from her.
Jan Brewer? Doug Ducey? Martha McSally? Mark Brnovich?
Karin Taylor Robson?*
Jan Brewer former Gov? I always liked her. As I remember she stood up to the Kenyan.
agreed, you beat me to the comment.
So.... Is this the, "Do these jeans make my butt look big?" statement?
Jan’s gone soft.
Yup, and her opponent is the current Secretary of State.
She was a reporter, once. She knows how to frame these questions because she did it.
But, she also seems miles and miles smarter than any of these morons are showing up at these rallies and press conferences. She seems to be playing with them.
Reagan also started in radio, so I’m sure that experience helped him as well.
“Lake, who is running against Katie Dobbs to be governor of California...”
Evidently Biden co-wrote the story. Joking aside, installing Joe Biden as President, then having him babble demented nonsense daily, has reduced standards to the point where “Dobbs...California” is dismissed as the normal incompetence. How long ago would that have been a career-ending gaff?
After she is elected on her merits by normal people, how much better for Lake to owe the GOPe NOTHING.
Yup Scott nailed in: Otto Korrect strikes again!
She has a keen mind a clear thinker like her style she reminds me of Trump’s style.
Take that
