Severa years ago, I read the book, Wheat Belly, by Wm Davis MD. Dr Davis claimed that high LDL is caused by gluten. So I went gluten free for a month and my LDL dropped to normal. It was actually quite a drop. No bread or cereal with wheat. That may qualify as a low carb diet, though I eat lots of potatoes and starchy veggies like carrots. White rice too just to keep my weight up.
I just hate pharmaceuticals. At 86, my one pill is lisinopril. Really excellent health, weigh 110, work out, have fun.
Sure thing, and a number of videos on it too. What really got me was how the companies manipulated the numbers in the studies to make an insignificant improvement look like a huge improvement*. Most doctors only have time to read the headline and the abstract, not the details - so they trust what they read. Also, the one study that I’m thinking of did see a big increase in Type 2 Diabetes for the statin takers, versus the control group.
*it was something like 99.7% of statin takers did not die of a heart attack or related condition between age 50 and age 60, but only 99.4% of the non-statin takers did not die the same way. Therefore, you’re TWICE as likely to die of heart-condition if you don’t take statins, (0.6% versus 0.3%). Technically correct, but very few people in that age group will die of a heart condition, regardless of statins, anyway!
“He’ll take them without question, though, because he doesn’t believe in questioning anything a doctor says.”
I am shocked at the number of patients we see that you ask them what the name of the meds they are on “I don’t know.” Well, what are they for? “I don’t know. I take these in the morning, these mid day, and these before I go to bed.” What are your medical conditions? “I don’t know.”
I believe if the doctor told them to slam their head on a concrete wall, they would probably do it, no questions asked.
I am like you I HATE pharmaceuticals, I take ONE pill a day for thyroid for some reason my thyroid just stopped working, hair started falling out, voice completely changed, fell asleep sitting up talking to people, FREEZING COLD all the time it was the damndest thing!! I take supplements and one aspirin Doc has tried to get me on cholesterol meds NO GO!! I watch my diet and I am VERY active, keep your immune system healthy and let your system take care of itself!!
Quite the story. I’m glad you’re ok.
years ago they knew that statins reduce heart attack risk from 1 in 6 to 1 in 7 for a healthy person with no known histoy of heart disease. Not a big improvement for the potential downside.
On the other hand, nobody seems to deny statin benefits after one has had a heart attack or stroke.
Some of us knew years ago Atkins was right...downside? you stink.
Bkmk
my cardiologist just could not believe I refused to stay on statins after horrible, debilitating leg and back cramps. Just couldn’t believe it.
Tried to scare me describing how cholesterol separates from blood in a centerfuge and the yukie cholesterol is thick on top.
I just said my brain needs cholesterol. He just grunted and turned away.
What the hell good is a functioning heart if my brain is fried??
My Dr prescribed this about 5 months ago. Keep in mind I take zero drugs daily. I took it for 2 days. Decided to do homework on it. Hell no. Never took it again. After C19 I will never blindl take a drug without intense research. Statins not good.

I'm 64, excellent health and weight and eat a rational diet, don't drink or smoke.
So statins was the route for me - no other way to keep the sludge manageable.
My dr. told me bluntly it was his job to put me on statins. Really??
I have refused and will continue to do so. After the Wuhan debacle of medical lies and coercion, my dr. visits are just a med check. I have a hard time believing anything any of them say.

You and me both.
My doctor wanted to put me on statins even though my cholesterol was not high - “because men over 55 have greater chance of developing high cholesterol”.
I have a new doctor...
I remember reading a link to statin overprescription and the explosion of kidney failure and dialysis clinics not sure if there is anything to that but bears some looking into.

Scary...hadn’t heard that, but wouldn’t surprise me as taking any artificial drug for a long time probably is not very healthy.
I contracted an autoimmune muscle disease as a result of statin use. It is chronic, but hopefully not progressive (11 years after original diagnosis). I am otherwise healthy and we are not treating the high cholesterol that triggered my initial statin use.
Do you know the cause of the blockage? Is it calcium and/or soft plaque?
There are healthy ways to remove both, but it takes time.
Hmm, I though the hightened calcium was a marker for coronary disease (CD).
CD runs in my family - most relatives have died from it.
I have a sensible diet and exercise regimen, am not overweight and not "stressed".
I am, however, an extreme MAGA Republican, so I guess I had it coming....
