While he is large (9 1/2’) we are not small enough to be food. His head is 1/3 the size of my fist. Snakes don’t constrict non-food. Wife and I are empty-nesters. No worries.

When I was a boy, many many decades ago, We had an outhouse up the hill from our house. I hated to use it at night. One night I had to do number two really bad so I took a flashlight and went up there. As I sat on the ‘throne I kept hearing a hissing noise. When I finished the paper worki and opened the door, a king snake met me and he was ‘standing up tall, taller then me for sure. That poor snake had been under the outhouse during my visit. No wonder it was hissing at me!

“for the tourist folks from Louisiana”

OK, that is hilarious... You could fill a boat full of frogs in an hour in Louisiana.

Ear-Bending Cellmate : ...and when there was no meat, we ate fowl and when there was no fowl, we ate crawdad and when there was no crawdad to be found, we ate sand.

The other day I was walking in my front yard and nearly stepped on a stick. That moved.

I jumped and yelped.

DH relocated the garter snake and laughed at me.

At least I did not call the police.

The prey does not “suffocate”.

The constriction/compression stops the heartbeat in a surprisingly short time, otherwise, the “suffocating prey” would have a chance to injure the snake.

Rats can hold their breath for 3 minutes, for example.

A constrictor will keep its grip until in no longer feels a heartbeat, which stops quite fast.

My first rescue Ibizan Hound was a prissy pants, without equal.

I’ll never forget the time she went outside after a rain and stepped on a big fat nightcrawler.

She screamed like a girl and jumped 3 feet straight up into the air and away from it.

If she’d been wearing a petticoat and pearls, I’m sure she would have been clutching them on her way down.

She refused to go out to pee on rainy nights, after that.
