...At 83 years old, she just crossed her 50th year working there, a career that started in the days when Ronald McDonald was the actual "burger king."
"Nobody works for 50 years anymore, let alone a fast food restaurant," said Madeline Scales, a co-worker VonDielingen's and the wife of his grandson.
"They worked with me when my kids were little, and I thought, 'Why should I walk out on them?'" VonDielingen said.
Speaking of her loved ones, they've pretty much all worked at the McDonald's too.
"I have three daughters that worked here," VonDielingen said. "I had two son-in-laws that worked here. I had three granddaughters that work here.
"You want something, you got to work for it," VonDielingen added. "It's not supposed to be just handed to you."

Interesting...stock is about 250X the early 80s price.
Oh, and their degrees...one Ph. D., four Master’s, three Bachelor’s.
And they all paid back their student loans by themselves.
I forgot about the hot apple pie. That was good!
That's what 83 typically LOOKS like, unless you've pulled and injected yourself into alien land like Jane Fonda.
“Jeeze, look at the picture. That’s what eating McDonald’s food does to you. Makes you look DECADES older.”
Eating McDonalds must be healthy! Most people are 6’ under before 80 and she gets up and goes to work every day!
—”Most of the employees there were aged 16 to 21.”
Seymour Indiana appears to be about 50 miles south of Indianapolis.
Guessing that 50 years ago this would have been ‘the sticks’.
A Mickey D’s job would be solid year-round employment in farm country.
IMO a different world from the big city/suburban existence.
My wife is from a similar town in the middle of nowhere Illinois. It is a pleasure to shop there, people appreciate the job.
Once while visiting I forgot my suitcase...off to the store... the clerk was pleasant and very helpful, mentioned where she lived.
My wife explained that because of flooding and bridge/road closing her commute was at least an hour longer each way!!!
Not many in Chicagoland would bother to show up when they can claim unemployment comp.
“You ever notice that people working in those fast-food restaurants back in the 70s and 80s were actual adults? “
Ever been to In-N-Out Burger or Chick-Fil-A?

Well worth the time drilling down through the above 30 posts for a fun laugh!
Thanks.
You can still find something like them at various state fairs.
Your analysis is pretty accurate.
Also hometown of John Cougar Muskmellon.
The store where I worked was a few miles outside SW Portland. Businesses along the highways, otherwise mostly residential with a few remaining small farms and patches of woods. Lots more development now, of course.
—”Southern Indiana servers are all pretty nice.”
There are nice people everywhere.
That said, away from the big cities you tend to meet more of them.
👍
she still waiting for her first raise?
How many decades older than 83 do you think she looks? Two? Three?
That doesn’t take you off the hook.
It looks like a bunch of other people jumped you over that comment. You’re on a big hook. Lol
Sorry, but I simply WILL NOT permit anyone to say ANYTHING GOOD about McDonald’s. I went to college and studied my tail off so I wouldn’t have to eat that crap. I’m BETTER than that, much better.
“Eating McDonalds must be healthy! Most people are 6’ under before 80 and she gets up and goes to work every day!”
I know, I just GET SICK of people attacking McDonald’s. At least there the food is fresh and you can find out what you’re getting. Go to a local joint and see if that’s true.
She has a great attitude.
