The ‘cut to the chase‘ aspect of whether Ron DeSantis is planning to run for the GOP nomination in 2024 is made clear when you realize just how much money the Florida governor has amassed. A standing total exceeding $200 million.

Almost all (96%) of DeSantis’ money is coming from multinational corporations, hedge funds, Wall Street firms and billionaires …. IOW, the puppet masters who will demand a return on their investment.
He’s done a great job in Florida. But, given the fact that the ultimate BabaYaga, Pres Trump, still dominates the Left, he flies under the radar. He has an electorate that supports him. He has a Republican controlled legislature that supports him. He can do what he wants.
If/when Pres Trump is gone, regardless of how that happens, all guns are turned to him. Time will tell if he can withstand the onslaught that awaits him.
PDJT is speaking at his rally in Ohio. It is very good, very entertaining, and carried on NEWSMAX.
DeSantis will need every penny. Long lines of dems plan to sue him for any and every reason.
I wasn't aware of a time limit on the use of those funds? Can't DeSantis save it for a 2028 run?

“ If that is true then they’re trying to create a false dichotomy?”
Of course Democrats would love a contentious primary.
I like Ron DeSantis, but in my opinion, he should wait for 2028. I want President Trump as the Republican nominee in 2024. However, if DeSantis would beat President Trump in a primary election, I would vote for him in 2024.
1. GOP Debates
2. Primary elections for GOP nom.
I suspect that Gov DeSantis will win, then go on to WIN.
That said, I'll support and vote for whomever wins the GOP nod, with no complaints or whining.

“I’d love to see who’s writing those checks.”
I live in Florida and my wife and I are active in republican circles in our state. The answer to your question is, in good measure(but not exclusively) Never-Trumpers. Yeb! donors eager to get revenge for Trump’s surprise excursion into republican politics. Many of these donors are very eager to get back to the Status Quo, and despise Donald Trump’s transition from Donor to Politician.
They are not especially fond of Desantis but, intend to use him as a vehicle to stop President Trump.
We have communicated to the governor’s people that it is highly unusual for a 1st term republican governor to amass such a sum of money and that that money for a political novice such as governor Desantis comes with many strings attached.
Many of us have made these observations known to the governor and told his people that challenging President Trump in a primary may accomplish two things.
Harm President Trump and destroy Desantis’ future as President Trump’s supporters will view Desantis as a Judas.
DeSantis is hardly a political novis. He served as a US Congressman from January 2013 to September 2018 and started serving as Governor in 2019. That's 8 1/2 years in public office. Trump served 4 years in public office.
“DeSantis is hardly a political novis.”
In the world of Politics Desantis IS a political novice. Novice. NOT novis. 8 1/2 years? LOL.
President Trump came into politics as a Fed-up citizen. But, a fed-up citizen with many decades of dealing with corrupt, self-serving politicians. His business made dealing with politicians at many levels a necessity.
After decades of dealing with them. Donating to them. He finally said, enough! I need to get personally involved.
And, this, upset the apple cart like nothing in the History of American Politics.
Ron Desantis, who I and my entire family voted for is not fit to tie Trump’s shoes.
From what I’ve been reading, it’s Pompeo who is openly saying he (Pompeo) will run for president in 2024, whether or not Trump runs. How’s that for loyalty to the guy who gave him a big title?
IN A PRIMARY, just what would Pompeo’s argument against Trump be? “You didn’t pay me enough!” ?
I really, really, really want Liz Cheney to run for the GOP nomination. She is only capable of handling questions from sympathetic interviewers. It would be amazing to watch Trump demolish her in a debate. She is such a lightweight.
Pompeo is assuming Trump will not run in 2024.
Trump is superb on agenda. But in my opinion he is not the best debater. DeSantis would demolish Cheney in debates.
And don’t even try to compare what DeSantis, with little to no obstruction, has done to what President Trump accomplished, taking on the Deep State-S hunger-Pelosi-Ryan-McConnell-the courts-Democrat Governors-liberal special interests-other world leaders. And he did it all with about 5 people in his corner
DeSantis’ 5 years in the House, one of 435, in no way compares to what Pres Trump dealt with for less than 4 years.
Interesting take and very telling.
For me, it means that they, at least, think that he’d be in their hip pockets.
