—”Now Chicago will lobby Congress for money to fix what they should be fixing themselves.”

I don’t want to look it up so as not to barf.
You may have a stronger constitution so you can look?

Lead pipes $$$$ money for Chicago.

In my far west suburb, we also have lead pipes in my hundred-year-old house but they add a mineral to the water that coats the interior of the pipe.

Test the pipes three times a year. All good.

The Department of Public Works in Chicago was negligent in not adding truckloads of blue pucks to the giant toilet.

Did God pull the FLUSH handle” Curious minds want to know.

God: I'm going to make it rain for a thousand days and drown them right out.
Noah: Right ... Listen, do this and you'll save water. Let it rain for forty days and forty nights and wait for the sewers to back up.
God: Right...

I saw a replay of a Chicago Bears player body surfing in celebration on the field. It was worth a chuckle.

In some of the older areas of many towns you still have portions of the sewer system that are combination sanitary sewer and storm sewer. Normally the sanitary sewer is the main volume and it goes to the treatment center but in a giant rain storm it was felt a century ago that the volume of rain water would dilute the smaller amount of sanitary that would wash into the rivers or lakes sufficiently that the same old brick or clay pipe could carry it all to that runoff. As roof drains and storm drains from fully hardscape cities made runoff swift and high pressured, in some cases it builds up enough pressure to blow the manhole access lids clean off and sewer water goes straight up due to the pressure. Likewise whole trenches can blow apart damaging adjacent utilities and underground electric substations and transformers.

I can believe it. Years ago a history professor said that one of his students gave him a section of wooden water main that he had helped replace while working summers with the water department.

—”We got a wet basement out of the deal. Super duper.”

Partly correct and much worse.

We, taxpayers, have spent time on the rack to cough up for the deep tunnel project, big bucks.

I do not know for certain, but suspect the geysers are connected to the deep tunnel project.

The Tunnel and Reservoir Plan:

“The megaproject is one of the largest civil engineering projects ever undertaken in terms of scope, cost and timeframe.”

“On October 3, 1986, a heavy thunderstorm drenched the southern portion of the Deep Tunnel area with several inches of rain in a short period of time. While the Deep Tunnel system performed satisfactorily by absorbing excess water, water within the system itself rushed past the north side of Chicago and near the Bahá’í Temple in Wilmette. Geysers of over 65 ft (20 m) were reported in both locations for up to an hour as the water was redistributed more evenly through the system. A 30 ft (9 m) geyser erupted downtown at the corner of Jefferson and Monroe, trapping a woman inside her car as it filled with water.[8] A system of watertight bulkheads has since been installed to prevent the event from occurring again.”
