A Fresno elementary school principal was charged with child abuse and endangerment after it was revealed he pushed an 11-year-old special needs student to the ground.
Newly released footage from inside Wolters Elementary School depicts the moment Brian Vollhardt, who resigned amid a police investigation over the summer, violently shoved the boy with autism on June 7.
The video shows the boy pointing at Vollhardt and speaking with him in the school cafeteria along with two other staff members.
As the boy appears to be leaving with the staff, he returns and points at Vollhardt one more time before the principal suddenly pushes the boy in the chest, sending the 11-year-old flying to the ground.
One of the staff members rushes to the boy's aid, and Vollhardt can be seen pointing back toward the child and yelling at him.
Ann Frank, the boy's legal guardian who described him as her son, told ABC 30 that she got a call from Vollhardt that day claiming the student assaulted him.
Frank said it took more than three months for the tapes to confirm what her boy had told her, that it was Vollhardt who knocked him to the ground.
'You cannot put force to these kids like that,' Frank said condemning Vollhardt's actions. 'My son is autistic. Any parents seeing this video, they know what I'm feeling right now.
'My son was pushed with force by this principal who was supposed to protect him.'

Many, many of us are just bone weary about being lectured about how we have to be super sensitive and so kind to individuals whp are in laymen’s terms pains in the ass and non productive screwups. Sorry there are autistics, retards, shizoids, erc. If they can’t make it with the rest of the normals put them somewhere by themselves and let the rest of us try and make our way through a country ad society that is crumbling and thinks normality is evil. If you want to foster these people fine. That makes neither you or the deviants you foster nominees for canonization nor should the rest of us be expected to kiss your foot.
What an ignorant, foul, retarded, uneducated, boneheaded & cruel statement you just made. Autistic kids cant help the way they are, thank goodness you never were tasked with raising one. I cant imagine what a cruel parent you woukd have been.
They can’t help the way they are. To bad. It is the way of the world. Normal attrition used to thin the heard of the perpetual burdens.
Considering the power-madness that has obviously infected the education system, I’m thinking every classroom, hallway and office should be live-streamed to the public. Bodycams for all school employees wouldn’t be a bad idea either. The ability is available.
Give the employers omnipresence over their employees.
Might work for politicians too.
There are people with handicaps who can’t be normal, and there are people who choose to be unproductive and dependent on the taxpayer, or deliberately bizarre and insist on acceptance and celebration.
Is it possible your anger with the second group is spilling onto the first?
If you can’t be normal you shouldn’t be around to plague the rest of us. A sschizoid man murdered a police officer in New Orleans several years ago. This man was a plague and a pest to the community but the state did not want to pay for his forced incarceration in the state mental hospital. People such as this person, unless they have a rich family, should be locked up period. The others you describe should be put in a penitentiary and given a sledge hammer and a pile of granite rocks to turn into gravel.
Defending a grown man for pushing down a 11 yr old kid. You loser
The principal was out of line. He’s the adult. The child said words and pointed at him.

Exactly, an autistic child controlled himself better than the principle.
Dangerous people should be locked up. Agreed.
For the not dangerous mentally handicapped, do you favor a Willowbrook-style warehouse and natural attrition, or would euthanasia be kinder? What about old people who can’t take care of themselves?
I understand the concern about letting the unfit be a burden on the fit, but what do you think we should do about them?
There's special needs kids with serious learning disabilities.
And then there's "special needs" kids whose parent or caregiver played the system to receive greater government benefits.
Every school should be equipped with a glass encased time-out office. My high school had one and it was effective keeping kids in line.
...........................
These days a student would fight going into the room. The school can’t force them. Then if they somehow manage to get the student into the room these days he would smash the windows. So many young people are completely out of control now.
Does look like the kid was being a punk repeatedly and probably got what he deserved… was it professional? Of course not, was it “abuse”? Think that’s a bit of a stretch, but legally may fit the definition.
To me this seems like a teachable moment for the kid abs mutual apologies and everyone would be better off… kid learn a lesson his dad should have taught him (unless his special needs are severe mental developmental) he should be learning a lesson about respect and when you don’t show it, particularly to folks bigger than you, there can be a price to be paid.
But we shall see
Wrong. Mainstream public education is no place for those type kids. They need to be in alternative schools.
As for me, compassion and love will reign. God has given me capacities and abilites in my 81 years of living.
He intends me to reach out to those who are disabled and needy.
I didn’t do what I did in my life and profession to have my “ foot kissed”!
I did it out of sheer love.
You are to be pitied.
For the record, I am a staunch conservative that believes the welfare system and liberal ideas are pure evil.
Disrespectful children are a shame to our culture as are the parents who allow this type of behavior.
BUT this is a total different ball of wax!...
~ kids today are often 'raised' without proper guidance - especially boys
~ special-ed is a racket and the kids know how to work it
~ paras (para-professionals) usually accompany the students, not special-ed teachers
~ paras are often not the best people
~ everyone that comes in contact with students must act as if children are angelic (they aren't)
~ BIPOC and now LGBT children are sacred and must be treated as such
PS. Get your own kids out of there!
My teaching certificate was in vocational technology. You are absolutely right on all counts with that comment. So right, it sounds like you've been there, done that.
“But, there appears to be two special needs aides with the kid and I am mystified why they didn’t do anything to control the kid. By law, they can restrain a kid who is potentially violent.”
I did notice them. One only pulled his hand down but did nothing to keep the child inline. I’m wondering why this is.
“Before No Child Left Behind, this kid would have not been mainstreamed in a regular school. Our special ed department had their own dining hours and for extreme cases, they had their own kitchen facilities”
when I was in school we had no children like this. Kids this violent would not have been allowed and parents would have been very upset to have them in the classroom. For the life of my I can’t understand why parents are not upset now. I can only imagine it’s that if this kid attacks their child they can always sue the school and win the ghetto lottery.
I agree this never should have been allowed. All this did is keep normal kids from learning by taking away from their valuable class time.
“The child is autistic.”
SO FREAKING WHAT!!
There are kids all up in that school with diabetes, asthma, cerebral palsy, heart conditions, cancer, blood disorders, the list could go on and on.
Those children all have to behave in class so why do autistic children get a free pass? It’s not fair to the other children who do have to behave.
Also in the real world? Autistics who misbehave can and do get arrested for disorderly conduct and/or assault. So they had better learn now as a child to stop the shit or else.
1) Social pressure by the media and special interest groups
2) Fear of legal action
It is pitiful to see that kids like this, representing maybe 2% of the student population get 100% of the attention 95% of the time.
The root cause is that they get no control at home and don't act any differently when in public.
Fear of legal action? Really it’s them that would fear legal action. If and when their kids attacks it is the parents of the victim that sues. Maybe besides just suing the school they need to sue the parent of these kids as well.
“The root cause is that they get no control at home and don’t act any differently when in public.”
Funny you should say that. I’ve notice that parents of autistic children often condone their bad behavior by just saying “well he’s autistic”. Well so what? There are kids with other illnesses who don’t misbehave so why does your kid not behave?
Then when their child is arrested they have hissy fits. I don’t care anymore. Arrest the brat then maybe he will learn to behave in society like a decent person.
