Visited family there around the year 2000. The only thing different that we saw on the sidewalks were street performers and preachers. We felt completely safe to walk around downtown and Fisherman’s Warf. I’ll never understand how they think they’re doing these people a favor and what is the payback for the politicians?

SF has been like that for decades. I remember working in downtown SF in 1995 and a man with his wife and three kids were walking and sightseeing. The man looked at me and grimaced. I smiled and nodded, Yes, bums everywhere. He smiled back as if to say, We won’t be back to SF. We were both nervous for his wife and three kids since about ten bums were in the area. Hastings Law School always has a team of bums, punks and yahoos. Diane Feinstein, Art Agnos, and William Brown, never cared. It is easy to clean up the bums. Just ask Salt Lake City and Helsinki. Both cities did it, cleaned up the bums. SF and LA can, too. How? Place homeless people into rooms with meals, prayers, counseling, and job leads.
