A grown man in a Juan Soto jersey intercepted a baseball thrown to a little girl by an outfielder at a Washington Nationals game Thursday night.
Avery Hilliard, 10, a youth softball player, came with her glove to the weeknight game - ready to catch a ball. But, when player Joey Meneses lobbed one into the stands where Hilliard and her teammates where waving their arms, an adult man towered over the children, snatching the ball and quickly turning away.
'Out of no where [the man] stands up and takes the ball. He had no remorse and his girlfriend was just sitting there laughing,' Gina Hilliard, Avery's mother, told DailyMail.com
Gina was recording her daughter lined up in the front row of the stands when Meneses threw the ball clearly intended for the kids.
Avery held her softball glove up high as Meneses threw his baseball toward her. 'Catch it, catch it,' one teammate eagerly screams.
Within a blink of an eye, the unidentified man in the Soto jersey comes in from off camera and intercepts the ball that was only a foot away from landing in Avery's glove.
'What?!' one incredulous girl can be heard saying in the video while Avery turned around in disappointment.
The still unidentified man swiftly walked away without making eye contact with the young baseball fans.
Gina posted video of the baffling interaction on Twitter with the tag: 'Grown man steals baseball from little girl.' It has since gone viral with nearly 4.5 million views.

BTW, that’s a Soto Nationals jersey, from before he was traded. Meneses has been a star for the Nats since the trade deadline.

If it was a record breaking home run ball I could understand it. He would still be a complete ass and deserve a beating in the parking lot, but I could understand it. Publicly stealing a $50 ball from a kid I just don’t understand.

That said, the fielder, Joey Meneses, needs to work on his throw. It was wide right which allowed that guy to get it. A paid ballplayer has to throw better than that.
Two of those girls already had baseballs so it looks like they were building a collection.
I feel for the kids but they need to learn young that professional sports pander to overgrown children like this guy in the stands. Who else wears a shirt with another man's name on it? Who else brags about how "we won last night" as though a spectator is on the roster.

Know what would really be cool? If Meneses got all of both of the teams to autograph a ball and gave it to the kids.

Nope. I just understand people who act like asses for money. I understand what motivates them, just like I understand what motivates most muggers and thieves. I don't like it or agree with it, I just understand it.
Avarice is one of the seven deadly sins. People have done terrible things for love of money or wealth for all of history. Adults acting like spoiled brats for practice balls that you can buy at any Wal-Mart is a relatively new phenomenon. Kids will be kids, adults should not.
Maybe, but I would never do it. So I am a male chauvinist pig. I was raised to treat women better than men, even if they don't deserve it.
I would have on problem, however, if a group of moms decided to bitch slap her in the parking lot.
