SEATTLE — A Seattle man accused of harassing and punching workers at local businesses could be going to trial.
Police say John M. Williams first punched a worker at a hotel near 1st and Stewart, then moved on to assault more people at Bacco Café during the busy Labor Day weekend rush at Pike Place Market, according to online records.
Witness video shows a chaotic scene at the popular breakfast spot around 10 a.m. Saturday, showing a man disrupting patio diners off 1st and Pine. Security acted quickly to grab him, as meals went flying and some customers jumped the railing to get away.
“I think it’s sad for the witnesses who have to see that kind of thing,” tourist Mark Nesmith stated after watching the witness video.
The incident report states Williams first punched a worker in the nearby Inn at the Market before landing at the restaurant. Online records claim Williams punched a waiter and assaulted a total of five people, and it took an estimated 10 others to hold him down until police got there.
“It’s close to everyone in this neighborhood who’s trying to make a living and sadly it is something we have to deal with on a daily basis,” nearby Seattle Shirt Company General Manager Kari Hicks stated.
She’s disheartened to see the violence and property crime near the market in recent months.
“It creates a really bad impression when things like this happen,” Hicks added.
It was just last month someone beat a man to death with a metal pole off 3rd and Pike. Plus, Hicks’ business and others have experienced break-in after break-in this year.
“I would obviously love to see more police officers and I would love to see them on the streets, doing patrols, making themselves really known,” Hicks stated.
The Downtown Seattle Association provided the following statement:
“Visitors, residents and workers should expect to feel safe in the heart of our city. The mayor’s SPD recruitment and retention plan puts us on the right path, but recent events serve as reminders that our community needs more immediate intervention as well. Solving this issue is critical.”
Records show Williams faces five counts for assault. He also had previous warrants for assault and property damage. The city attorney has requested a jury trial and Williams’ next hearing is set for Wednesday morning.
Gee. What a novel concept. Putting someone on trial for assaulting people.
We should try that in the USA.
He doesn’t need a prison cell, he needs care and understanding!
He needs a tall tree and short rope.
Drugs or just plain nuts?
No clear face photos of this Bum-Zilla character.
Are they shielding him because he’s black?
You would think News Org.s would be over that by now.
Crime has no particular color.
He must have been on PCP.
What? A trial in liberal Seattle? Never heard of such a thing.
My old stomping grounds twenty years ago. I’ve been back twice since - it’s downright dangerous now and nobody is doing anything about it except wondering how it all happened. City Hall is too concerned about White Supremacy and Climate Change to care.
A criminal POS going to trial in Seattle.....c’mon man!! .../sarc
After years of lockdowns, people don’t have the patience for crowds, waiting and lines. Room service and 5* hotels is the only answer. The tourist industry is dead.
“It creates a really bad impression when things like this happen,” Hicks added.
What an amazing observation.
Rest easy, citizen. We have social workers en route to your location.
Gee Kari, did you ever think to ask “why” you have to deal with this on a daily basis?
It wouldn’t have anything to do with all the liberal scumbag politicians you demonrat voters always elect, would it?
I’m sure Kari Hicks here, was the first to march with BLM and led the charge to defund the police. Sounds like a leftard to me and in my profession, I can sniff em out easy.
Maybe, perhaps, kinda, sorta, who knows? The Seattle courts have been releasing: rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperado’s, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, sh!t-kickers and Methodists.
I haven’t been to the public market in about ten years. The last time I went downtown was to see Jordan Peterson about four years ago. I live about two miles north of the Seattle city limits.
You reap what you sow.
Writing musical scores for major motion pictures eventually takes its toll.
‘“I would obviously love to see more police officers and I would love to see them on the streets, doing patrols, making themselves really known,” Hicks stated.’
You get what you vote for.
