Can’t stand either voice.
You deserve a lot of flak for this. And we have very long memories.
Great movie, and she’s great in it.
COULD have been a great actress. See: Sterile Cuckoo.
BTTT
Thanks for posting - I loved every minute of it!
I liked them both. I remember Garland’s television show. It didn’t last long, but I especially recall the ‘Born in a Trunk’ segment.
You would have been so much better off if you’d posted the wonderful non-controversial Marilyn Maybe version:

Extra credit for bringing the Scopitone version:-)
A great musical made better with Liza and Joel.
I could not stand Liza Minnelli. An artist she was way overhyped.

That’s OK, you’ve been an oddball before, so no harm done.
Liza Minelli (and her mother) generate strong reactions. Neither is a favorite of mine but Cabaret was a great movie.
No one can top Natash Richardson’s Sally. She sings it better than Liza, but above all, whereas Liza is just singing a song with no meaning, Natasha actualy emotes and acts the part - you believe that she is singing in a crappy club in Berlin in the 30s. She takes it to another level.

The song Cabaret is an anthem to hedonism. What a sad and pathetic worldview. When I was in high school (in the 1970s), my school put on a production of Cabaret. At the time, I thought it was wonderful. The overall theme is a cautionary tale. Unfortunately, today America is going down the same road as 1930s Germany. But we ought not be surprised, as the fault lies in the hearts of sinful man, and that can never be remedied by politicians or government policy, or even MAGA, as commendable as that movement may be. Only revival, born of the Holy Spirit, which turns men’s hearts in repentance to their Savior, can bring about the change that is so desperately needed.
