The regulars (as you call them) have collectively thrown off the war stance of the neo-cons and look at the conflict through the lens of USA first.

Since 1991, only the Deep State holds on to the Cold War concept of an aggressive, nuclear Soviet Union.
War for the sake of war is anathema to us.

As a whole [WE] (THIS thread) do not support RUS or UKR in the conflict taking place.
We see that UKR is a country under-going loyalty issues and want to cast their lot in with NATO, collectively we don’t agree with that move because of UKR’s propensity to turn to corruption too quickly; MONEY for politicians.
This trait is thoroughly cold-war Russian position...proven by every Russian immigrant and Russian national I’ve ever met. Some here view UKR as the underdog but most have no opinion.

Russia, OTOH, has a dog in the fight other than Putin’s stance about NATO on his doorstep.
That would be that UKR is using it’s independence to house nefarious military workings in the forms of Labs and nuclear depots...provided by NATO “friends”.

So, [WE] look at the conflict and focus on the political players...their history, their actions, their public statements and ask, “Who Benefits”.
And, in THIS priority: Benefit to the American people; Benefit to the UKR people; Benefit to the RUS people.
